I'm at the heaviest I've ever been. I'm nervous for dress shopping.

Dante, on February 19, 2020 at 10:11 AM Posted in Planning 0 9

After various medications I've gained a lot of weight. I'm not at my happiest at the weight and everyone is asking me if I've gone dress shopping yet. My wedding is 4,3,21. I'm trying to lose weight, and decided to start KETO but I haven't started yet. How did you fellow brides get out of this mind set.

I felt the same way and i cringed and went shopping, dresses can be taken in and sized down. You also have a while until you'd need to order one yet, I wouldn't order until July, you have lots of time ! Good luck !

I had the same problem. However, I got a dress I wanted in a size that fit and told myself I could with no pressure lose the weight. I recently went for a fitting and the woman just did a couple of tucks and you just see a beautiful bride.

I don’t know what your size is, but find a place that carries your range. (I’m a plus size bride). When they tried to fit me in tiny tiny dresses it hurt my mind.

Deep breaths girl! I was at my heaviest when I went dress shopping the first time, and i will say that it was surprisingly doable. I found many gowns that looked gorgeous on me. You will be beautiful no matter your weight! If you want to lose weight, focus on no soda and no potatoes honestly. I also went through a period where I wasn't eating a side with my meals and was cutting carbs. Carb counting and taking it easy! It's a process, not a diet. Treat it as a lifestyle change and tell yourself that moderation is the key. You can have fries sometimes. You can have treats sometimes. Just have to do it in moderation.

    Hi Dante!

I agree with some of the PPs-- you can still go dress shopping and get your dress altered. I'll also add that I've been doing keto for three years now, so if you need any tips or advice, I'm here for ya!

As someone has already said, you will be amazed at how a wedding dress can make you feel like a princess no matter what your weight is. If you go once and you really dislike the experience, I would say you have a few months before you NEED to go shopping. I had a dress emergency (long story short) and had to go shopping again earlier this month for my May wedding, and we still found something that will be ready in time Smiley smile

Remember you have time to lose weight and I get the feeling as I was there recently. I am just eating right and working out hard which is all we can do. Remember you can always alter or order a smaller size. Can I make a suggestion? Go dress shopping once some of the weight comes off and also closer to your wedding. I say this because I bought my dress back in October and I am going dress shopping tonight and in March because I have slight dress regret and I want to try on other dresses to be sure if I want another or not. Plus I have lost some weight and have worked on toning so I can see how things fit and feel better about myself in the dress. You have over a year so what do you think about waiting a few months and then you will feel more confident?

I was the heaviest I'd ever been when we got engaged & when I was dress shopping. It wasn't SUPER heavy but 15 extra lbs on a small frame was a lot for me. I still enjoyed dress shopping and just lost weight after and had the dress altered.

I was the heaviest I had been too. But I found a dress I liked and while it was being made I did keto and worked with a trainer for 6 weeks to kick-off more exercise and I love 15 by the time of my wedding & felt great. My dress kept me motivated.

I was at my heaviest too while shopping. I'm not happy about my weight, but I had to just accept that this was the weight I was at and go find a dress. I did go to a plus size bridal shop to really ensure that I could try on most any dress that I want and not stuffed into a dress several sizes too small and be told to imagine what it would look like on me. This was such a good decision because the entire appointment built me up rather than had me focusing on flaws. I left that appt feeling pretty darn good about myself and I'm so happy that I went to this particular salon.
