Illusion back repairs on a wedding dress

Molly, on July 6, 2025 at 9:51 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 1
I really love a dress I found used, but the illusion back has some significant damage. I am wondering if a repair is actually possible before buying this. Here’s a photo of the damage. It needs to be hemmed so I’m thinking they could take some of the floral lace from the hem and “patch” it up but I’m no seamstress! Please let me know your thoughts.

I am not a seamstress, either, but I would probably take it to one. My friend does a lot of dress work (costuming mostly, for plays and stuff) and I've seen her do a lot of work with fabric glues, hand stitching, and appliques. Looking at it, it might be possible to use a combination of hand-stitching and then adding a little applique over it to mask the stitching?

Worst case, maybe replacing the mesh entirely, and re-doing the stitched detailing (embroidery and beading)?
