Ignorance is bliss

Emily, on July 22, 2020 at 1:38 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 14
What is a wedding practice that you didn't realize was such a big deal until you were planning a wedding?

For myself, I hadn't really considered the logistics involved with plus ones. I definitely went to a wedding in my early twenties and just asked a friend to go with me maybe a week before, since I'd gotten a +1. Now trying to hunt people down so that I have names for escort cards, I am kicking my past self.
Any good ignorance is bliss stories?

One of the things that shocked me the most about wedding planning wasn’t just sticker shock but it was specifically sticker shock pertaining to wedding cake. It’s crazy to think that it can be like five dollars a slice. Or more

Yes I am definitely discovering that there are two types of people. Those that get the card and immediately take action, and......... Others. 😂

I think the HMU prices threw me off. I also had no idea that Columbus Day (weekend) was actually a "holiday" - therefore HMU prices were thru the roof because of Holiday / after hours / wedding.... it would've cost me more than $1000 for HMU - happily doing it myself and I know I'll like the results better anyway.

How much weddings costs?! I knew they were expensive, until I started to plan the price just kept adding up. We were planning for under 35 people. Then I started asking people with over 100 guests and I was like 😮!

Our "venue" is a park pavilion - literally a park with a roof. We have to provide everything else and we are DIYing a lot. I didn't think about things like who would cut the cake to serve, where the cake and other foods would be "stored" (since there's no back room), incidentals like salt and pepper, etc.

Part of that might be that your wedding is in September...there's a ton of uncertainty with coronavirus, so I'm not surprised people are waiting until the last minute.

Oh that will most definitely be some, for sure. I was just marveling that I got like 20 the very quickly the first week, then a few, now I'm in the drought of the late comers. Lol

Hopefully another flood at the end will help so I don't have to call all these ppl. ✌️

I think seeing the actual cost of everything. I mean we all know weddings are expensive; it's a very lucrative industry. But it didn't actually hit me until we started signing contracts and paying deposits. You don't REALLY know until you're in the thick of it lol.

Yeah, it has definitely made me go... Well damn, I guess me and random girl were better friends than I thought? 😂 Or maybe I got invited and I was supposed to be a "no but send a gift" 🤣
