If you don't mind sharing - Alterations costs

Desiree, on December 11, 2019 at 4:22 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 16

How much did you guys spend on your alterations?

I have a ball gown with horsehair tulle. But regardless, I'd love to hear how much you all spent on average for your alterations just so I am prepared for my appointment in 2 weeks. Smiley heart

Thank you all in advance. Smiley smile

My dress was a mermaid with a satin top and horsehair tulle bottom. I had the bodice taken in, cups added, and a bustle added. It cost me $205 total in Memphis, TN.

I had a ball gown with horsehair tulle. I had it hemmed in the front, bustled, and steamed for around $400.

My alterations will cost 395. It’s the highest my salon will charge for them. No matter what I do

My dress was a fit & flare. I had it hemmed, taken into some around my chest & waist, the zipper shortened, & a bustle added. I paid around $400.

I just went last night and this is what I paid. I have an A-line dress.

I’m 5’4” wearing 4” heels. The dress has 3 layers (2 which are tulle).
I got a size 4, but the lady said I should have gotten a size 2. Unfortunately, that would have taken months to receive so getting size 4 was my safest option.
    Taking in neckline $45

Taking up shoulders (cause I’m still short!) $35

    Take in seams $65

Reshape arm hole (cause taking up shoulders) $20

    Hem $150

    Take in side seams $60

    Bustle $50

    Add cups $20

I have a ballgown and it needs to be gemmed (1 layer of lace, 2 layers of tulle, and one layer of chiffon), padding put into the bust because my chest never got the puberty memo, and a three point top bustle put on and it is coming to $270

I’m paying $450 for my crepe gown. It includes adding a 3 point bustle, hemming, taking in the chest and waist, taking in the sleeves, and shortening the torso.

Thank you all for commenting, ladies! Needless to say, this is roughly 2x what I was thinking. I know I won't be doing a bustle at all, but that won't be saving that much, so I will definitely bank on $400 for alterations. (Roughly, of course.)

Thank you all for your feedback. It's greatly appreciated. Smiley heart

$400 for mine. I needed it hemmed, taken up in the shoulders, and I added sleeves and a bustle.

I spent $700. That included adding detachable sleeves, adding jewels to the sleeves, taking the waist in, hemming the dress, adding padded cups, and the 5 point bustle.

Mine was the perfect length (ordered petite) but had the shoulders taken up and a few other small alterations and added sleeves, it was $690, way off from what I expected... But my expectations aren't from any knowledge.
