If I order a ring online will another jewelry store do repairs/cleanings on it?

FutureMrsAF, on March 22, 2017 at 10:39 PM Posted in Community Conversations 1 16

So I'm getting a new wedding band and I've found a few online that I really loved and they're much less expensive than going to a local store. I'm wary of this though because I don't want it to have problems with no way to fix it aside from shipping it back and forth to the online place for cleanings and repairs. Anyone know if other jewelry stores will take care of this kind of thing for me? At a cost, of course - I just wasn't sure if for a store to do any work, it had to be bought through them as well.

Any online ring ladies and gents please let me know how you maintain the upkeep on yours!

Nordstrom will clean it for free as long as the

ring is gold or platinum. There was another post about this recently and someone mentioned she used to work at a jewelry store and they cleaned rings without it needing to be purchased there. I think some stores will let you purchase a maintenance plan.

Hm, I don't live near a Nordstrom but I'm sure there's others that offer something like a maintenance plan. I'll have to call around!

Just find a good local jeweler. They can do any cleanings or repairs you could ever want.

Kjuilers will clean for free I think even if you don't buy it there. Repair work I'm not sure about that.

Team local jeweler!! My local jeweler got my earrings from Zales all fixed up for $12! And Zales quoted me $160.... I will never walk into another Zales as long as I live!! Local jewelers are the way to go for honest work.

I didn't get my ring online but through a different jewelry store that is now out of business. Anyways kesselers has resized it, cleaned it and sotered it too! You should be fine to have another store take care of it.

I have an heirloom so no way to go back to the original, I just had mine sized and repaired at a local jeweler with no problem! Also called around to compare how long it would take, everyone I called was willing to work with it.

FH got my e-ring elsewhere and then wanted to have it redesigned. He took it to a different, local jeweler and they did all the work for him, so that is where we've been going to have my e-ring resized, cleaned, and redipped, and they made my custom band to match my e-ring.

Use a local jeweler. I wouldn't go to any name brand jeweler especially with scandal of several months ago

I agree with Nancy D. I bought all three rings online due to styles I wanted and local jeweler is expense to purchase from. However, the shop I go to is where my Dad got my Mom's wedding band. The place has been in business for years. They are very reasonable on repairs and cleanings, wouldn't take my rings anywhere else.

We ordered my rings from Overstock, and I've already taken them to a local jeweler for cleaning and appraisal. You shouldn't have any issues. I feel my jeweler was reasonable with their prices.

They will do the work but you may not be able to purchase a plan. If they will do a plan, you need to do it right away when you get them. We bought all the rings from a jeweler on Amazon and I've never had an issue getting them cleaned or re-dipped. I also had a jeweler repair a prong on my e-ring without a problem. Usually I've taken them to Hannoush/Kay/Zales and it's usually around $45-$60 to have the white gold replated.

Have you gone to any local jeweler to look at rings? Sometimes they are surprisingly affordable. I was expecting to pay around $1200 for a wedding band, but the jewelry store where FH got my engagement ring has some beautiful ones for under $700-$800

We got my engagement ring online and we just took it to a local jeweler in the fall for a cleaning and inspection. And they didn't even charge us! :-)

Any jewelry store, at least in our area, will clean it for free.

    Repairs in not sure.

My e-ring was purchased online, and had to be re-sized. Took it someplace local and they took care of it no problem. I seem to remember my brother doing something similar? Or the place he bought his band closed their shop and he had to find someone else to re-size it years later. You should have no difficulty.
