Ideas for unity ceremony

Carlee, on February 22, 2017 at 5:02 PM Posted in Planning 0 12

I don't want to do the sand ceremony. My parents did that along with 3 of my friends and I want to be different! We are unifying me, him, my son and his daughter

We are doing a handfasting ceremony. You can have the kids hands tied as well or have the kids tie your hands

I'm hoping to do unity in glass or similar. Honestly, it's kind of like sand but you end up with a nice work of art after. Everyone can have their own color

The whole wedding is a unity ceremony. The idea of having a separate "unity ceremony" during the over-arching unity ceremony was made up to sell candles and sand and whatever other stuff people could be convinced to buy.

It might sound a little strange but we are having a 'tree' ceremony... There will be cones filled with potting soil that each person will pour into a big planter.. then during the ceremony my FH and I will then pour in cones of our own and the tree will be watered together.

In Norway, fir trees are planted outside your front door after a wedding. The roots growing symbolize your relationship continually deepening, the trunk is strength and the new needles {or cones} are for the new/growing family and children to come.

We are doing a wine box ceremony. So instead of just letters between you and your FH, you could as a couple include letters to and from your children. It would be a great to look back at those letters 5 years later and see how much you all have grown as a family.

To incorporate your kids into the ceremony I suggest family vows. After you and hubby exchange rings you can say vows to the children. Depending on their ages the kids can also do a set of "I do" family vows to you and FH. This is very popular with my blended families. Ask you officiant about possible verbiage. Best wishes!

We're also doing a tree ceremony- we're taking soil (displayed in glass jars) from our childhood homes and pouring it into a small potted tree, which will then be planted in the backyard of our first home.

@stpaulgal thank you for your input but the reason I am doing a unity ceremony separate from my wedding is because the wedding does not include our children enough in my opinion. I don't really care WHY they were made up. That isn't what I asked.

Braid ceremony? You all can braid the rope and then hang it up in your house. I've seen them on Pinterest they look nice.
