Ideas for deceased

Crystal, on April 15, 2020 at 2:29 PM Posted in Planning 1 20

I'm curious what some of you are doing for the deceased at the ceremony & reception?

I've lost all my grandparents and plan on doing charm photos in my bouquet of the 4 of them, as well as wedding photos of them on a table as well as memory bouquet and mention in the programs. ... what else could I do to honor them? I was very close to my grand mother.

Now here's where it gets very important. My FH lost his mother 10 years ago.. Whom he was VERY close to, .and I am wanting to do something very special in honor of her, for him. Ideas?

I plan on doing a trail of pennies in his dressing room to a picture with the "Pennies from Heaven" saying, as well as a photo of his mother, as well as a box beside the photo with a lapel pin with photos of his mother and grandmother and grand father with a note that says, "They can still take the biggest walk of your life, with you." Love Your Wife. I plan to do this in private so he can have his moment, but is there anything else I could do that is creative or different?

Oh my!! I was nearly in tears reading the last part. I think that is a wonderful idea to honor their memory. I was going to say the bouquet charms but it looks like you already have that covered.

Did the people your honoring have any favorite songs/food/hobbies you can incorporate in the ceremony, reception, menu, or things like that?

Smiley smile Thank you! I feel like I need to honor my MIL somehow as I've never met her. I want it to be special for him because he's never been married before. Sometimes I'm a bit sad that I don't have a mother in law and he doesn't know his real father. His step father and him don't talk much so I dont know what to do really. As far as food, I dont know if we can incorporate it with our caterers. They're pretty by the book. Not sure of favorite songs. Smiley sad Also my FH doesn't have any items that belonged to his mother nor do I of my grand parents.

That’s super sweet! I really like that pennies idea. 💕

We honored our late grandparents (and his late pup!) in the programs. We also got married on his late grandmother’s birthday.
We used “Wouldn’t be Nice” as our recessional song since my grandpa loved The Beach Boys! My other grandpa loved carrot cake so we had mini carrot cupcakes in his honor (and had a sign indicating it was his favorite dessert). One of my husband’s late grandfathers loved caramels from See’s Candies so that was also part of our dessert table with a sign. Then I surprised my husband by having a recording of his other grandpa playing violin play during dinner service.

OH HOW BEAUTIFUL!!!!! I love that!!! My grandma used to play accordian and sing, "You are my sunshine" to us kids when we were younger. I could maybe incorporate that in somehow. I wish I knew more about FH mother Smiley sad

I think what you just mentioned is SUPER creative and so meaningful!!!

Both of my paternal grandparents have passed. I had originally thought of doing the photo charms like you mentioned on my bouquet, but in a brainstorm for old, new, borrowed, blue, I came up with the idea to pin these bracelets I have of theirs to my bouquet.

I lost my mother seven years ago (and all my grandparents have passed). For the grandparents I will have photos of them included on our photo wall, but for my mother I will be reserving a seat in the first row with a little sign and sweet saying. This could work well for your FH mother? I think it’s a sweet gesture, especially when it comes to parents.

So sweet you are thinking through this, all the stuff you mentioned is incredible!

Thank you! Are you having a chair or a church pew?

Our church has pew's so I'm not sure how to do a memorial chair for FMIL.

Can I ask what your saying is for the sign?

I love your ideas but you may want to ask your fiancé how he would feel about having something (even private) to honor his mom. My hubby too had lost his mom years earlier but was super against any reminder of her. 1) He wanted our wedding day to be happy, not sad, 2) He was concerned any reminder of her would really upset him or his brother. He said he would be thinking of her but just couldn’t handle an obvious reminder because it would be too hard for him. 😞

I plan on some similar things for our wedding. My brother passed away 8 years ago, and my grandfather passed last fall.

We're doing a table with their pictures and a Saint Michael candle (patron saint of soldiers and first responders - my bother was a military veteran and my grandfather was a retired military chaplain and a volunteer firefighter chaplain in retirement).

Also planning to reserve chairs with their pictures during the ceremony and put white roses on them before going to my FH.

We are having chairs but I think you could do it on church pews too! I would say just reserve one of the aisle seats. Maybe you could put a pillow or something down to signify? I am not sure what quote we are using yet but I’ve attached an inspiration. My FH and I aren’t incredibly religious but if you are a cute one is: “we know you’d be here today, if heaven weren’t so far away”. I also love the inspiration image attached with the image of the son and his mom, maybe you can add something like that and if there is something special he has of hers add that too? It’s also nice because you can see it from the alter and kind of fee their presence.Ideas for deceased 2

UGGGH!!! I LOVE THIS!!!!!!!!!! Thank you!!!!!! Smiley heart

I was trying to figure out, if i did this, who would put the flowers on the chair....Him? His sister (Bridesmaids), My daughters together who would have been her step grand daughters or me? I always wanted to do the exchange of a rose for my mom and my spouses mother..Like I give her one, and he gives my mother one...However... We cant.. So Would it be good for him to give my mom a rose, and me to lay one on the chair for his mom?

I'm sorry to hear that. We speak about his mother often, and he has stated he wishes she could be there and see how far he's come and to meet myself and my children. He's very open about his mother. He loves her and misses her very much. He said he's open to honoring her on our day.

If he's open to honoring her on your wedding day, your ideas will be so sweet to him! Making it a private moment will be really touching too, without him feeling to exposed in front of everyone. Smiley heart

Yeah, thats why I figured I'd give him his time. I will have a photographer there with him at that time tho, just so I can see his reaction to it. I put a LOT of thought into this and how i want to do it, so I hope it turns out Smiley smile

Do you have any of their belongings you can incorporate? I have seen people sew in part of a loved once shirt on to their wedding dress or inside of the grooms coat. I always though that was an awesome idea.

It is! But we don't have anything. Smiley sad Unfortunately when my mom's house was burglarized in Arizona they took everything including my grandmothers wedding rings etc. So There's literally nothing. My FH has nothing of his mothers either as he was away at the time of her death and was unable to get anything of hers.

You’re welcome! And yes omg I love the idea of you laying one there and him giving your mother one, that’s an incredible way to do the thing you’ve always wanted to do ❤️ And I think it would really touch him to see that. So happy to help!!
