“Icing” fh

Arianna, on September 7, 2020 at 2:21 PM Posted in Planning 0 26
Hey everyone!

My FH and I love to prank each other and I have thought about “icing” him at some point during the wedding. Any suggestions on when to do it? I’m thinking I will have one of my bridesmaids slip me a Smirnoff ice when we are announced into the reception and ice him then. What do you think?

Can you explain what "icing" is? I've never heard of this

The rules are simple: If a person sees a Smirnoff Ice, he or she must get down on one knee and chug it, unless they happen to be carrying their own Smirnoff, in which case they can "ice block," or refract the punishment back onto the attacker. In order to dupe people into stumbling across the beverage, participants have devised creative ways of presenting them with Ices, like strapping the bottles to the backs of dogs or burying them in vats of protein powder.

Do not do anything that may make other people think drinking games are ok at your wedding. They get out of control very quickly, and people quickly go over the line between being on control of their drinking, or out of control. With emotions running high over masks and distancing already, leave anything like this for private parties in your space whether pre wedding or an after party. You would be held responsible legally if there are any issues. There are other times better for this play.

I agree with this. Also, it seems like many people doesn’t understand what it is either and will add confusion. I’ve never seen it or done it, I only know what it because of a few posts on here.

This sounds extremely childish and very embarrassing. This day is a wedding not a frat party. As a guest, I would be turned off by anything like this.

Don't do this in front of guests at a fancy party where you will be driving somewhere afterward. Getting intentionally drunk is never healthy or pleasant to watch. Save it for the privacy of your own home.

Plus no bartender or security would allow that on their watches. Your venue may not even allow it.

My friend did this at her wedding and it was a huge hit! She did it during the wedding garter toss and fit their personality and was light hearted. As the groom was “looking” for the garter he found the Smirnoff ice. It didn’t end up leading to any craziness or drinking games. It was also a pretty nice wedding so if it works for you guys as a couple I say go for it!

First of all, if people get out of hand at your wedding, they’re responsible for themselves.

Icing the groom is funny and unlikely to lead to mass shenanigans. Don’t be a party pooper.

Thank you! Our wedding is only 40 people at a private home that is housing everyone for the night which means nobody is driving. I just thought it was a harmless joke that fits my fiancé and I🤷🏻‍♀️

This party pooper has lost 4 family members and a husband, and was raised with 2 kids we adopted from relatives who died, and with 2 of my father's wife's children he adopted after her death. All 8 deaths from 5 different accidents, all drunk drivers after parties , weddings, one a ball game. All my people sober and boom, someone else who felt their need to overdo it on alcohol was more important than the lives of other people on the road. Yup, I don't think drinking games are a good idea at a wedding.

100% this. This sounds extremely childish and inappropriate for a wedding.

I’m really sorry to hear about that. This is a small wedding where every single guest is staying on site all weekend. It is a private event with 40 people and NO driving after. We did the entire retreat with bedrooms for that reason. It sounds like you have a bigger problem with alcohol at weddings which I understand in your situation. We are having one Smirnoff ice outside of wine/beer and a limited amount of cocktails.

I’ve lost people to drunk driving as well. But to assume everyone will irresponsibly drink at every event is also extrapolating. OP already explained her plans for a safe event.

I completely disagree with all of the negative posts! If it fits your crowds sense of humor then go for it! It would have been a huge hit at our wedding and I wish I would have thought of it. While a wedding isn’t a “frat party”, it is a party so why not celebrate. I will say, we played the thunderstruck drinking game at our reception and people still talk about how it was a great way to get everyone on the dance floor. Make sure you give your photographer a heads up - they may have ideas for when to do it too.

I've never heard of this. But I don't think this is that bad. I guess it is more of a know your audience thing. If your guests aren't going to be outraged by it, go right ahead.
