Ice Sculpture???

Kate, on November 6, 2017 at 4:41 PM Posted in Community Conversations 0 23

So my venue includes an ice sculpture to be displayed at the cold hors d'oeuvres station during the cocktail hour. We need to tell them what we want it to be of and I'm at a loss for ideas. I wouldn't have one if it weren't included, but I figure if I'm technically paying for it with the all inclusive price I may as well get it. Anyone else have an ice sculpture at their wedding? What was it of?

Married last initial is an O which I'm worried would look weird, like just an oval or something. I guess people would figure it out but that's what my mind went to haha. I like the idea of first initials though.

Why don't your do your monogram? So your first initial on one side, his on the other and the last name in the middle.

You could just have a heart, your names, the word love. Or maybe your flowers encapsulated in ice might be pretty.

Maybe your favorite animal, or something to go along with your theme. Swans are always fun.

I love the martini luges; one of my couples had one of their dog, a corgi. It was fabulous.

FH's last name is 11 letters so we couldn't do the full last name, but I do like the idea of each of our first initials with the last initial in the middle.

We don't really have a theme so nothing to play off of there. The person I spoke with at the venue mentioned people doing sports team logos but idk if that would be weird.

Don't think we could go the luge route because I think it will be surrounded by food

I would ask them to just not do the ice sculpture at all before I asked them to take it out of the price. We are getting an unbelievable price for the area with the amount of extras/upgrades that are included that it wouldn't feel right to me asking for money off.

Our venue had a book of photos, of past sculptures they had done. I initially thought I wanted a cherub or two. Then I saw the photos and realized they were naked. We ended up having a fruit tower the center of the table item.

P.S. Some people aren't offended by ice sculptures. Some are offended by the judgemental attitude of others.

Hmm well penguins and elephants are my favorite animals and his favorite is foxes. I guess a penguin could work since it's December even though it's still technically fall (I feel like penguin says winter).

Yes, I ordered a lion ice sculpture and surprised H with it while we were alone to check out the reception space during cocktail hour. He has a thing for ice sculptures (he thinks they are cool lol), and he's a Leo, hence the lion.

Our semi-inclusive venue had other options for less that you could choose from; this one was custom so I had to pay a bit more. The non-custom ones they had were a heart, and I think one that said "love". There might have been a third option, but I can't remember what it was. Maybe something like that would work for you?

OP, if you think he would like a penguin, then get a penguin. No one is really going to care - it needs to make sense to you and H, no one else. I couldn't tell anyone of this surprise because I was afraid he would find out, so I can guarantee you more than half of our guests (mainly my side) had no idea why there was a lion ice sculpture at our reception. It wasn't for the guests - it was for H. Who cares? If you had a July wedding and wanted a polar bear, then get a polar bear. No one will give AF, and if they do, they can shove it.

Thanks! I see you're on Long Island. I got married at Chateau Briand - I love all the semi/all-inclusive options on L.I. They damn near throw in everything except the kitchen sink. lol

I think this is a neat idea. I bartend at a bar carved entirely out of ice so I'm fascinated by it.

I wish it wasn't by food, I suggest doing a photo frame. It'd be a cute photo op.

I have seen bottles done before - like a wine bottle shape. That is pretty neat.

You could give the artist some freedom and ask for something abstract. We have a really neat abstract one at work with swirls and bubbles and so much detail. It's probably one of the coolest pieces in the whole place.

So some of our good friends had an ice sculpture at their cocktail hour and it was of their cat, and they had a framed picture of him next to it...it was HILARIOUS and SO adorable!
