Ice breaker dance

Lucky, on April 30, 2018 at 12:49 PM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 16

My DJ is asking if we would like an Ice breaker dance ex. cha cha, chicken dance, etc.

I'm not very found of any of them either is my FH. Is it okay not to have an ice breaker dance? I mean I want a wedding, not a prom... LOL

Chicken dance is a no for me... cha cha slide is a heck yes! Most weddings I’ve been to get a good response from those dances. However you don’t have to do it if you won’t like them. I just find it’s somethinf that many people know!

Chacha slide, Cupid shuffle, or wobble is a yes for me. Dances that are familiar to everyone will get people on the floor.

chicken dance or other goofy stuff is a no.

I am not having any of those dances, cuz its just not for me! I think if you have a group that dances i dont think you need an ice breaker song like those... Any fun upbeat dancy song would work!

If you don't want it don't let the DJ pressure you into having one. We aren't playing any at our wedding (we are specifically forbidding them). Personally, I hate songs like this.

It's totally okay not to have one! I think it just depends on the crowd, and how much dancing you want at the wedding. You could tell him maybe if no one dances after 3-4 songs after dinner, he could do one to get dancing started?

Maybe instead of a line dance maybe you can just give him one of your favorite upbeat songs to start with. Can't stop the feeling Justin Timberlake, September earth wind and fire, a Jason aldean song or luke Bryan for country???

Our DJ did a form of the snowball dance. All of the wedding party would grab someone from the crowd every time the song said party. From that moment on the entire dance floor was full until the end of the night.

Uh, no. No one does "ice breaker dances". I'm a professional wedding singer, and that's just not a thing around here. Hard pass.

If you don't want them then yes it's totally ok to skip those. You know your guests and you know if they'll respond positively or negatively to those types of dances. It's totally your call. Personally I skipped these and my guests danced anyway.

I last did the chicken dance in 1981. Never again....... Please don't let your DJ pressure you into anything. Try some tried and true dance songs: Bruno Mars's Uptown Funk works well, or if you are into kickin' it old school: KC and the Sunshine Band "Get Down Tonight" or....."Save a Horse Ride A Cowboy" by Big and Rich gets people out, as well!

    Best wishes!!

This is totally a matter of your preference. If you and FH don’t want an icebreaker dance(never heard it referred to as such before), then don’t have one. We specifically told our wedding band not to play any of those type of songs.

I would be in the bathroom during this portion of the reception, or outside having a smoke. And I don't smoke.
