i was worried about my dress

Monica, on April 24, 2020 at 1:46 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 4

I have been worried about my dress still fitting in 6months since the wedding got postponed. My dress was fully altered and I either need to maintain my weight or not gain more. Luckily I have the phone number for the alterations lady who worked on my dress. We hit it off in the store and she lives really close by to me (the bridal shop is a 35-40min drive for both of us).

I texted her this week so she could save my number. I told her I was worried about my dress and what if it doesn’t fit and what if I gain weight, is there room to let the dress out?? She reassured me that in September we will reevaluate and whatever needs to be done she will take care of it. Also I can come to her house for alterations instead of going through the store (which will be cheaper pricing). She made me feel a lot better.

My thought process on my weight: we are trying to elope in June which Im buying a different informal dress that is very form fitting. I am trying to still lose weight since I have more time and would like the new dress to look nice. The problem for my formal wedding dress is my hips/thighs area, when I workout I gain muscle there first. I even went a size up on the dress when I first ordered it because I was worried about it and good thing I did. There was no space in my dress at all in my hips and thighs.

Also we had wanted to get pregnant right away after our “April wedding “ that didnt happen. We really don’t want to wait anymore so its a possibility i might be pregnant when we have our big ceremony & reception.

For those that are postponing, whats your backup plan if your dress doesn’t fit?

All of these are my concerns. I’m an Athletic girl with big hips, a curvy butt and thighs for days. LOL. We are getting married on our original day 6/7 and plan on getting pregnant and I too could be pregnant for our reception in September. When I go see my dress for the 2nd alterations, which was supposed to be today, I’m going to ask them about my options and tell them to hold off. I’m losing weight as well and want to hold
off alteration until July. Either I’ll be skinnier or I might be adding a belly to the look. LOL. Good luck to you. If all else fails I’ll just squeeze myself into my dress and add some elastic. 😩🥴

🙌🏼 Someone in the same boat as me. My dress was snuggg in the hips, butt, thigh area. I want to continue to lose weight but at the same time im like 😩 paying for alterations a 2nd time. I think maybe get ur second fitting the middle of June. Im thinking what about a corset back? For sure if we are super preggo it will help with the belly area but will it help with the hips/thigh area? My dress is mermaid style with lots of beading. What style dress is your wedding dress?

This has been my biggest concern since I got engaged. Wedding is planned for a year and a half away and I'm already concerned about it. I'm a recovering anorexic and my weight routinely goes up and down like a yo-yo. The idea of ordering a dress 6 months in advanced seems impossible. Hell, there have been times in my life where maintaining a weight for so much as a single month was impossible and the stress of wedding planning is already triggering my eating issues. I know it's a little ridiculous to worry about something so far in the future but seriously WHAT IF MY DRESS DOESN'T FIT?

Aw sorry to hear that. It’s stressful at times but try to counteract the stressful with something that brings you peace. You can also buy a dress off the rack, this might eliminate the unknown of what size you might be when you do order your dress vs your size when the dress actually comes in. For me my dress is already fully altered and if my hips get bigger my dress wont fit also if im pregnant maybe another reason why my dress wont fit. Hope it works out for all of us in the same predicament.
