i want Fall but... my fh wants Spring

Rachel, on August 16, 2019 at 12:56 PM Posted in Planning 0 9
So my goal for the end year is for my FH and I to have decided on a season we want. We did decided no earlier than May 2022 (We are having a very long engagement so I can go back to college and we want to make sure we have some time after I graduate.) I want Fall and to try to have it on October 8th 2022 due to the fact it's the day before our 11th year anniversary. He wants it in the Spring (no suggestion of date).

We live near Pittsburgh and the weather is not always very dependable but I'd like it to be mostly outside. I want my FH to feel apart of the decision making and I dont want to run on his toes.

Should I keep both seasons in mind and look for a venue? I know it's really early since the engagement is going to be very long, I'm just trying to give myself a goal so I don't feel rushed as i get closer to graduation.

I would definitely keep both seasons in mind. I'm getting married in fall, but it was going to be spring at first, and a spring wedding would have cost us significantly more

I always thought I had to get married in the summer because I'm a teacher. However, FH wanted a Fall wedding, and I too wanted to give him a say in decision making. So we are getting married in the Fall and neither of us will be all sweaty because Michigan summers can be brutal.

Is there a reason he wants Spring? Have you mentioned to him the weather concerns?

Spring was the first season to come out of his mouth. He didn't mention why. I think it has to do with the most recent wedding we went to. It was it the Spring and we really enjoyed it.

A fall wedding is usually cheaper because it's considered the off season. Just something to consider!

The great thing about looking at venues without a date in mind is getting to price compare dates. We ended up going with November because it's cheaper than October. Almost went with February at another venue for the same reason. Plus, you have plenty of time so I'd just take the pressure off yourself to choose at this point.

I would look at venues and see pricing for each and then weigh the pros and cons. I know where I live a March or April wedding is a lot cheaper than September or October. But every city and venue is different.

I would certainly look at both seasons. My husband and I were in the same position as you - only reversed (he wanted fall, and I wanted winter)! I am in Philadelphia and since I wanted off-season, that left the cusp of winter in both directions.

In the end, our decision was made based on the amount of events in the fall. I did not want to get married during back to back holidays and birthdays (lots of fall birthdays in our family). So we were married in mid-April.

I would keep an open mind about both. I have always wanted a fall wedding, because that is my favorite season, but I was also open to spring if needed. Choose a color palette for both and see what you like better

I agree with this. Check out venues first then find out pricing.
