"I spy" / Disposable cameras?

BeachyBrideToBe, on March 28, 2017 at 4:45 PM Posted in Community Conversations 0 19

Wondering if anyone is planning or has put disposable cameras and some type of card on each table with an "I spy" sort of theme to capture pictures.... for instance, they would say something like "a picture of your whole table", "someone dancing", "cheers", "the first dance", etc...

The two weddings I was in this year, both brides said they wished they had gotten more decent shots of guests during the reception as opposed to just people dancing on the dance floor and I was thinking this might be a decent way to do that? But wondering if it's a waste, or if anyone has done it before?

I would not bother with the disposable cameras. Buying them and then having the (usually horrible) pics developed gets expensive. Only kids will use them because most adults have cell phones. You can ask guests to send you the pics they take with their phones (I think there's actually a service for that).

I was thinking about doing this for the kids at the wedding. I don't think it's a good idea for adults.

I wouldn't, cell phone cameras are now better than the old disposable kind. We asked our photographer to get photos of each table. Those shots, along with the dancing candids, were enough for pics of guests.

Please don't do that to your poor photographer. Smiley sad Add a second shooter if you're terribly worried about missing any moments.

I am doing the disposable cameras for the kids. We dont care how good the pics come out and some places will still develop them pretty cheap.

Please don't go this route! I understand that if they are in the hands of children then so be it. However, once in the hands of intoxicated adults you may find quite a few surprises. My mom did this when she got married and while most came out good, there were some that had a thumb over the lens or someones eyes were closed. But what REALLY stuck out was the wonderful bare ass shot taken in my parents room... To clarify why it was a backyard wedding. But my mother said NEVER in a million years would she ever want that for my wedding. We just put out a little extra $$ for the photographer.

I thought about doing that but instead of having a disposable camera, just letting the guest do it with their cellphones and use our wedding hashtag &uploading them (if we do the hashtag, still on the fence)

My photographer actually suggested this idea to us. Since we're having about 20 kiddos under 12 y/o he thought it'll be a good idea to have them entertain themselves with an ISpy... Seems like a good idea since our venue does not allow crayons or pencils, so no coloring books or a craft table. We have yet decided though.

I would do it when regular phones and have them send it to you. Phones take better pictures. However, most people won't be really into the game. Having to remember to send/post photos, actually taking the photos instead of enjoying the wedding...it's really something to talk to the photographer about. The idea is nice and I wanted to do it, but the reality is it's a waste.

People have cell phones. The game is a cute-ish idea. Just have them do it with their phones. I can promise you it's much easier to keep up with a cell phone than a disposable camera.

Sounds cool, but I would hate for you to waste money if people don't take good photos

I'm not doing disposable cameras asi think they are a waist of money. But I do plan to do the a "scavenger hunt" with instructions to use our wedding hashtag when they post the pictures to social media so we can see them. Something similar to this...

Disposable cameras at a wedding are a waste of money. Use money elsewhere or save it. Smiley smile

ETA : reception venues are dimly lit. There is not any kind of disposable camera that can handle low light situations. I'm surprised a photographer would recommend them Dajemi. I would not do it.

We're doing a photobooth. With a scrapbook the DJ puts that together for us.

For kids, I think this is a great idea to keep them busy and entertained. For adults, maybe have them share their photos on social media using a custom hashtag.
