i picked the wrong dress!

Hello fellow brides and wedding enthusiasts!

The title says it all.

Last fall, I was randomly picking through the clearance section of Torrid (a plus size store) and, surprise, found a wedding dress! It fit well--just a little big, so room to alter. I picked it up for $60. This is pretty similar, though mine has more shoulder coverage: The Cheap Dress

It was a total score. It's simple, unfussy and I could dance all night in it. But the moment of finding it wasn't special at all.

Fast forward to this spring. My wedding is coming up and I've had the blues about a few things not going to plan. I wanted to feel like a beautiful bride, so I booked a session at David's Bridal and brought my mom along. I got the true 'bridal' experience, standing on the stage, having everyone ooh-ing and ahh-ing. It kind of went to my head a little. My mom got all teary when I put this dress on, so I went ahead and ordered it in my size.

It came in and came home with me. I put it on again and... disappointment. I knew right away that I had gotten swept away in the moment and that this wasn't the dress for me.

I honestly want to go back to my $60 dress, but I've already shelled out $1,000 on the fancy one. And I can't return it.

Has anyone had any luck selling an unworn, unaltered wedding dress? I don't expect to recoup the full amount, but don't want to waste the money or walk down the aisle in a dress that doesn't feel like me.

Try selling it on Facebook wedding groups or sites like Poshmark.

At Davids Bridal you can exchange your dress for one you like better (I've done this...TWICE... Smiley xd ) if that's an option for you?? Or if you're having bridesmaids they can find their dress at DB and the store will use what you paid on your dress towards their dresses and they can pay you. Otherwise i do think Facebook is the best option

I know DB doesn't do returns, but they normally do exchanges. Will they allow you to exchange your dress for store credit? Then you could use the money for your mom's dress, bridesmaid, flower girls, or other wedding stuff they have there like bridal swag, shoes, or jewelry.

Quick little update: DB IS letting me exchange it. I dragged my feet because this was causing me so much stress...

I'm going Saturday to try new dresses on!
