I need ideas for non-cheesy things to incorporate into my ceremony

Because I Said So, on March 9, 2010 at 4:13 PM Posted in Planning 0 5

I have an officiant lined up, an old friend of mine that I've known since I was 6. She's done 4 other weddings but I haven't talked to her yet about what else we can do during our ceremony besides the vows and a reading. I've seen sand blending and unity candles at other weddings but I don't care for that myself. I don't want to pay for doves or butterflies. I'm hiring strings to play the processional and recessional (and cocktail hour) but for them to do an instrumental song in the middle of the ceremony would be weird. any suggestion may lead to a brainstorm so please post what you know!

Or you could do a handfasting ceremony.

I am with you abotu the sand and unity candles. We skipped it all together and are just sticking to a basic outline. My service however is by candle light and we are doing a speical music in the middle. During that time every person in the audiance will be lighting a candle of support to keeping us to our vows.. (they will all be giving it at the begining of the ceremony)...anyway...there are other things you could do too...my cousin had a parent from each side read well wishes during the ceremony which helped to lengthen it... anyway..good luck!

Bear in mind that one gal's cheesy is another gal's jewel!

One piece of advice I will give you is DON'T have your strings play a song mid-ceremony without something else going on in the background. It will be the longest three minutes of your life!

You might want to consider some words of appreciation to your parents during the ceremony.
