i need help!!

Kaleigh, on January 24, 2020 at 1:11 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 14

So my fiance surprised me when we first got engaged and bought me a pair of Christian Louboutin's. They are gorgeous but they are 5" tall. He knows I will just be wearing them for the ceremony and then changing in to a pair of wedgies that are 1.5" tall. What do i do about my dress?! I have my alterations appointment coming up so hopefully they have a solution. But am I right to think that either I have my dress hemmed to fit the higher heel and then be too long the rest of the night OR have it hemmed for the shorter heel and have my dress too short for the ceremony? Any help is appreciated! Smiley smile

Hopefully your seamstress can offer a solution, but yes, generally the dress is hemmed to 1 length which is why they typically insist on you bringing the shoes you will be wearing to your 1st fitting.

When I went dress shopping. My consultant asked if I would be ordering my dress in long. I responded that I would not, as I planned to wear flats. So the standard length was perfect.
And she basically said the same thing about brides wearing heels and then taking them off for the reception and the dress being way too long. So she didnt seem to have any solutions either.

Hmmmm I don’t know if there is a good solution but I would rather have my dress too long than too short.

Could you come up with a DIY solution? Like pin the hem of the dress up for the reception?

If you don't mind having to lift your dress at the reception the whole night, then I'd just get it hemmed to fit the 5" heels. I'd much rather trip at the reception than during the ceremony lol.

My seamstress always has me wear the shoes I'll be wearing the entire day! Having too long of a dress though was quite annoying though. My dress was 1" inch too long and I just kept stepping on it and almost tripping every single step I took.

Hopefully they can do a bustle or something that won't make it as long for the reception. But generally, yes, you can't alter a dress for 2 drastically different height heels.

If I had Louboutin's on, I'd want them to show!

For the reception, are you able to add an underskirt to your dress to add fullness? The additional layers may lift your skirt up and away from the floor. I've seen such underskirts at David's Bridal

I'm wearing my Louboutins to the wedding and bought 5 inch platform heels for the reception that still give me height but are easier to wear

What kind of dress do you have? I originally had 5” heels and was going to change into 1” for the reception, but I have a ballgown, so tripping over my dress at my fitting was enough for me to switch heels. I think if I had a different style dress it would be better, but mine has like 8 layers so it was just too much for me

Have you broken them in really good? My friend wore a pair for her rehearsal dinner and wedding and was almost crippled after because her feet hurts so bad lol!
I know that doesn’t answer you question. Just want to warn you so you’re comfortable!!

Have the dress measured to your heels and bustle it for the reception.
