I need Father/Daughter song suggestions that are NOT lovey dovey...

Sarah, on June 27, 2014 at 2:38 PM Posted in Planning 0 26

It's a long story but I'll give the highlights.

-Didn't meet my father until I was 13

-Rarely saw him since them until

-Our relationship took a turn for the better two years ago

-My moms giving me away (he opted out)

So, for my father/daughter dance, I want to have the dance start with him but have the men in my life (my uncles and older cousins and my FFIL) who have been there for me either all my life or in very, VERY significant ways, take their turn cutting in.

The problem is I have no idea what kind of song would be good for this! Or, even a song that would be good for father/daughter dance that is still slow but not super lovey dovey.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!!

Yeah, I've thought about those. They're not bad, I just wanted to find some more options I haven't thought about. They're good back-ups though.

UGH, what is it with father's these days?! ha!

@Maltese That post was meant to go before yours. Thanks for the list! I'll listen to some of those. Some I haven't heard of so maybe they'll give me some inspiration! Thanks!

I have a step-dad and a bio dad. Not sure how to do the father/daughter dance yet. Although, song selection is a good start! I would love suggestions as well.

What about Landslide or Stand By Me?

@FutureMrsMatthews I've thought about that. I want to kind of surprise her. She named me after that Hall & Oates song "Sara(h) Smile" so, I wanted to maybe surprise her by the DJ playing that song and pulling her on the dance floor! Is that cheesy or WHAT? haha!

Also, I should point out it's very possible my dad opts out of the father/daughter dance, too. I just want to be prepared incase he does want to do it!

    UPDATE:

My dad just emailed me back with this:

I would be honored to dance with you on your wedding night. I don't have a problem with the men in your life cutting in on the dance, in fact I think it is rather nice.

@Jess, that's a pretty song but it's still a little too fatherly since it talks about growing up with his little Cinderella, which did not happen in my case haha

I LOVE the idea of surprising your mom with that song! Made em want to cry, dangit! (I don't cry often!) Maybe do a quick thing with her before doing a father/men in your life dance after?

IDK if I'm even doing one - my dad and I didn't have a close relationship either way but he passed away in 2007, so it's a moot point now. My son (who will be 9 1/2 by the wedding) has requested to walk me down the aisle. I'll probably do a dance with him - same as you, can't pick a typical fatherly love song either. I may have my brothers cut it (like that idea you have!) do they can feel special even though I'm not super close to them really.

The only father figure at my wedding with be one of my good friends Dads that has been like a supportive uncle/dad for me for the last 10 years. he will walk me down the aisle (i have no biological family) and we will dance to When you wish upon a star by Billy Joel, no lovey dovey, no "thanks for rasing me", just, "dream big kid, be awesome"
