I need advice, my wedding dress is a little loose.

Jen, on November 3, 2012 at 3:31 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 11

Hi! My wedding is 2 months away and my wedding dress is a little too loose on the torso and the bust area. I don't want to alter the dress because there are lots of beading on it and I don't want to gain weight just to fit into it. What can I do? The torso area is maybe about 1/2" lose, the bust area is no more than 1".

Will a bustier work? What else can I do?

This is my dress.

It's a size 2 petite. I'm a 32A.

Have more than a half inch of room is going to be hard to fill with just a bustier, most bustiers are meant to hold in your lumps and bumps, not make it so your dress fits tighter..I'd go get it altered, the place you bought it should be able to do it for you,or you can find a seamstress to alter it for you.

Short of stuffing the bodice with tp I don't think you can. You'll have to get it brought in. It won't be bad the seamstress will know what to do

Most wedding dresses need to be altered. (They are made to fit very tightly to keep everything in place, but that means that they need to fit very exactly, which a standard size rarely does.) The bridal salons typically charge a lot for alterations. However, you might check around for independent seamstresses in your area. I know the ones in both Boston and DC (people who do excellent work, and charge reasonable rates), but that won't really help you in Los Angeles.

I would alter it. Many brides lose some extra weight before the wedding, and 1" in the bust area is a lot. You'll end up pulling the dress the whole day. A built in bra or chicken cutlets (I still think that's an incredibly funny thing :-) could solve the bust area problem - maybe. But in any case, I don't think any kind of undergarment will fill it up to where it will fit properly.

We are dress twins! I already have my dress and it is a little big and will definitely need alterations and I was told that even with all the beading I would be able to have it altered. I won't be going to David's Bridal though, I plan to find a local seamstress.

Hi everyone. Thanks for all your responses. I did lose 5 pounds after I started my new job 3 months ago due to stress, so maybe I'll try to gain those 5 lbs back. I have 1 month to gain some weight, and if that doesn't happen, i guess I'll get it altered but I'm really on a tight budget. How long does alterations usually take?

My job is killing me. My boss is not letting me take the day before or after my wedding off, so I don't know what to do. I work full time from 10:15-7:30pm (sometimes to 8pm if it's busy), so I won't have time to get my nails done or even go to my own rehearsal dinner. I can't get my nails done too many days in advance because my hands are constantly in contact with cleaning agents and rubbing alcohol, so the nails will get ruin by the end of the workday. I've tried those fake nails before and it falls off. I've NEVER had a pedi/manicure before, so for my wedding, I'd really like to have it done. I just don't know what to do.

No idea when your getting married but I would wait until closer then get it altered. A bustier would probably hold you in more and make it bigger.

My seamstress told me that she can do alterations in two weeks, but I'd have to pay for the rush service.

As for your nails, check into a shellac manicure. It isn't tips, but it is a type of polish that is supposed to last up to two weeks. I typically get mine to last about a week with no chips. You could possibly find a nail salon in your area (maybe even near work), and go before work one day to get your manicure.

If you can swing it, I'd get one now to see what you think of them, and to give you an idea as to how long they can last on your hands... That way, you'll know if you can get away with going the day before your wedding, or if you can go a few days before, based on how hard you are on your nails.
