I kind of think my wedding is going to look empty

So we booked a beautiful reception venue that can seat 300 but from the way RSVP's are looking now based on the declines we received, the number of single guests who aren't bringing a guest, and the list of people who we haven't received an RSVP from who likely will decline, it looks like we will...

So we booked a beautiful reception venue that can seat 300 but from the way RSVP's are looking now based on the declines we received, the number of single guests who aren't bringing a guest, and the list of people who we haven't received an RSVP from who likely will decline, it looks like we will only have around 130-140 out of the 205 we invited. I'm really worried it will look empty and silly to have the reception in that big room. Any ideas to make a room look fuller?

I sent sent my venue coordinator asking if they have high cocktail tables and if a seating area is an option. Fingers crossed!

Give lots of space between tables and even chairs. Space everything out. Fill the empty space with larger decorations. Space out tables for gifts, cake and so on.

Thank you for all of the wonderful suggestions! I was starting to regret picking such a big ballroom but now I think it will still look great!

If the tables seat 10 have 8 per table. People will just have more elbow room - big dance floor.

See if they have couches or chairs that can be moved in for an area to relax between dancing

After seeing the picture, I think you will be fine. PPs are right, 140 is not going to look empty. It will be nice to have more space to get in and out of seats, mingle etc.

    The venue will

    Know what to do.

I'm sure it happens a lot.

I think it'll look really great as is! Like someone else mentioned, 300 is likely wall-to-wall people. You'll actually have room to move around now, it will not look empty. Your venue is really pretty!

I think 6/table looks fine! It gives people more room too which is great.

I think one PP mentioned that 300 is capacity, but that means chock full. My venue is 300, and we are inviting 230. We are anticipating at least 30 nos (elderly family who would have to travel a long way, doubt they make it but we are not completely discounting them!). When I look at my venue I have no idea where I would put 300 people! I think 200 is going to be a squeeze.

I think you have some great suggestions. It will all work out!

    Space your tables out more.

Our venue holds 350 people we plan to invite 250-300. I figuire we will have plenty elbow room. I just hate the feeling of a stuffy room.

Your venue can tell you what previous events of that size have looked like and how they've been organized. they should have a standard floorplan for 125-150

Tables of 8 instead of tables of 10. We even had some tables of 6, and it didn't look sparse. We had 90 guests (10 were children) in a room that could hold 200. I was worried it would look empty, but our coordinator assured me it wouldn't. It truly didn't look empty. In fact, I'm glad it wasn't more crowded because people could move around the room without bumping into chairs.

My coordinator sent me an email back and told me that they put up cocktail tables by the bar, which would have been nice to know sooner so I could plan for my DOC to place some candles on each table, and we will just do less tables. So I guess now that we won't have as many tables I will have left over decor to place on the cocktail tables so that works out perfectly!

Though I agree that it should be fine, if you're worried, I also like the idea of a WW table.

My venue is making a lounge area on one side of the dance floor to fill the space. I think it will be a cool place for people to chat and drink.
