So as of 2 hours ago I have cancelled my winery wedding in Sonoma. My heart is broken but somehow I feel lighter. The reasons for cancelling:
1. My parents and best friends cannot come. Manila is on lockdown now and quarantine. This is probably the biggest reason. 2. 40% of our guest list cancelled. 3. The uncertainty of the situation and possibility that it could get worse. 4. I work in healthcare and I don’t want to get my colleagues and patients sick. A lot of coresidents were planning to come as well. 5. I really can’t take 4 more weeks of being in limbo. My stress levels were through the roof!!

My wedding planner has been so great and understanding. We were able to book the same venue, caterer, florist, photographer, DJ without losing any money to the new date next year. Now to fight the 10k Airbnb and VRBO charges! Wish me luck. I purchased WEDSAFE and they have been 0 help and accused me of knowing the virus would be a pandemic when I purchased the insurance 1 month ago. They said I should have known since December 2019. They have been downright awful and won’t cover any losses at all.

Who knows what will happen next year, but we will be better prepared. My next step now is informing all the guests, most of whom know this is coming since I reached out to them already before.

Though I am very very sad and in tears. I feel lighter, like a weight has been lifted. I want a happy wedding and don’t think I can have it without my family. Best of luck to those with weddings soon. There is no correct answer whether to push through or delay. But I feel your pain and wish you only the best.

It's wonderful to see so many strangers coming together and offering up caring advice! As for purchasing insurance, what is insurance for? Unforeseen circumstances and emergency cancellations. I would reach out to a higher power for sure. Could you imagine if all the brides got together and filed a suit with all of the travel insurance companies? We could call it the "I DO Movement!" haha

Our wedding is in June with only 30 guests and we have no plans to cancel. We all live here in VA and it's a small family wedding. If it were our first wedding with so many guests, it would be completely different. I wish you all the best in your planning. If anything, it's a great story for years to come!
