I have to walk on water for my bridal entrance

Ostrich, on April 27, 2015 at 1:23 PM Posted in Planning 0 16

Pardon my dramatic title, I submitted which ceremony site I wanted, but according to my numbers I either will be entering from a bridge side-ways or in the back of the group more traditionally. The bridge is the one all guests take, but I would be entering the side with half my guests already behind me which isn't ideal. I've always pictured all heads turning to see me, not just sneaking in the side. So in order to have this done I apparently have to cross a stream stepping on rocks with a rope. Needless to say I'm picturing me wiping out, but it's worth it since that's my "vision," correct? Please give me advice that the small stream in a wedding dress is doable and worth it. Hypothetically nobody would notice me crossing the stream, which i find unlikely since i'm riding up on a horse and carriage. I guess this is what my bridal party will be doing too?

I've seen some cool stair enterences, so please share any memorable/fail enterances if you don't have any advice Smiley sad

How wide is this stream? Is it narrow enough to lay down some 2x4s or particle board to walk across, rather than try to walk across the rocks?

How small is this stream? Do you have a picture?

It sounds like a disaster waiting to happen, but hard to tell unless we can see the stream.

Seriously? If you're stepping from rock to rock, and your dress has a train (or even if it's just full length), you could easily end up with the hem/train wet before you even walk down the aisle. If you're wearing heels, you could easily trip and end up in the water. And your whole bridal party takes the same risks.

Is there a way for you to set up a room divider or barrier at the back behind all the chairs. So you can enter on the bridge before all your guests. Then hang out where no one can see you, and come out from behind the barrier to walk down the aisle when the ceremony starts.

Depending on how wide the stream is, could you get plywood or something and make a temporary bridge?

What brides dad was building them a carriage for a princess wedding? I think you recruit them to make you a boat or fabulous bridge. Smiley winking

There is a large river on the right, this is not the one i'll be stepping over. The bridged river to the left (almost just looks like grass in this picture) is the one i'll be navigating.

Second picture is what's behind it, so it looks like the slope may mostly be the issue

Can the seating arrangement for the ceremony be changed at all so that the bridge is behind the guests?

That was the plan, but apparently with the large guest numbers having the bridge behind will be tight. We'll see i guess once i'm there, makes me glad i'm going a week early to figure it out

Crossing a stream on rocks in a gown? I can't say it sounds like a good idea. I would go there put on heels similar to what you will be wearing, wear a long skirt or wrap a blanket to wear your dress will go to and try to cross it gracefully.

You have a horse and carriage, so people will notice.

Honestly, I've never been to an outdoor wedding where the bride walked straight up the aisle, just due to layouts of the area...they usually just ended up coming up to the "aisle" from the side...and it never bothered me or made me think it was weird. I never thought about it until this post.

Depending on how you look at it, I think its pretty impossible to have an abrupt WOW moment with an outdoor ceremony. Instead the anticipation builds as the bride usually comes into view down a path, over a bridge or from some other area rather than church doors swinging open and there she is.

I would be concerned about the slope and stepping over the stream. Have you practiced walking on a grassy hill in your shoes and dress? Yikes, probably not. I would feel unsteady for sure. The drama of the horse and carriage trumps any disappointment of not walking up the center, IMO
