i hate my bridesmaid dresses

Meaghan , on May 14, 2018 at 6:31 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 15
So me and my 4 bridesmaids all live in 4 different states. I figured it would be easier to just buy the dresses online because of the distance. We picked one out from Etsy and everyone was okay with it. It’s a convertible dress so it can be worn many different ways.
The problem though is that the top of the dress is sequin which is heavy and kind of itchy for the girls. One girl straight up told me she hates it and the others said it’s okay or they like it (but I think they may just be being nice).

Does anyone have suggestions on what to do? Should it be altered someway? Does anyone have experience with these stupid sequins? I’m not going to ask them to buy a whole new dress.

I'm not sure how they are wearing the strapes but what about a camisole or a shell under it? I honestly don't have much other advise.

I personally wanted sequins for my bm and in the end I change my mind because it was uncomfortable and very irritating to the skin. Especially since I tried it on, I wanted to be considerate of how it would feel. I rather choose something my bm would be comfortable vs. not. but at the end of the day it's your wedding and you should get to choose what you want them to wear.

You might check with a seamstress and ask if they could put a sheer piece of fabric under the arms. This is usually where sequin dress become uncomfortable/irritating. It shouldn't be noticable from a distance.

Id tell your girls to go have the bodice lined at a seamstress and you'll pay for it. It's tough when buying online. Are the dresses custom made? Can they be returned?

Can you return the dress or try to sell them on a resale site? Then you could give your girls the money back to buy new ones or you could buy the new dresses for them.

Agreed...if it is itchy then line the sequins - some people are a lot more sensitive than others when it comes to sequins.
If it is under the arms that is bugging them, they could even just pin a thin piece of fabric, maybe sheer gold even, theirs arms are probably going to be down more than not so it wont be seen and would alleviate the sequins rubbing against their arms.

Can it be returned? This is a risk you take when buying online. You can't see the fabric in person and you can't feel it on your skin. When buying online i try to make sure their is a return policy. Somethings look nice online but you can't guarantee you will like it on once you receive it. If the dresses can't be altered to help everyone i say you may have to scrap it and buy another. Preferably one at a department store that's local to everyone or a designer than can be found all over. Or atleast the same color but maybe different styles and everyone can share them with you prior to purchasing. That way everyone can try it on and you have less complaints that way.

The dress is not returnable but I think we figured out an alternative. Thanks to everyone for the ideas!
Were going to cut off the gold top and sew on an elastic band to the waist to make it a skirt and buy shirts to tuck into the skirt. We may use the gold part to put around the waist yo hide the elastic, we’ll see how it looks. FHs Grandma is a seamstress and she has no issue doing this for us. (Though I will compensate her for it somehow)

Look for runners glide-it’s an anti chafing product . If you put it on the body where the dress touches the skin, it should eliminate itching.

Could something be sewn into the inside? Maybe a softer fabric, or even some kind of shaper wear that's soft?
