I hate dress shopping!

FutureMrsChang, on January 11, 2015 at 12:37 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 19

So, today I had my first official appt.! I was planning to go with my mom and sister (MOH). Well, my sister totally blew me off to be with her boyfriend. I'm a little upset considering I had this planned a month in advance, but whatever I'm just glad my mom was still able to make it Smiley smile

It was actually raining today, so my mom got to my place a little late so we showed up to the boutique about 30 min. Long story short they gave my appt. to a walk in and I should have just called to let them know, but I was such in a rush I didn't even think too, plus I didn't realize I was that late. Luckily there was an Alfred Angelos walking distance and we got lucky because they took us as a walk in.

Well, I only tried on 2 dresses. My mom REALLY loved the second one and even got teary eyed once they put the veil and everything on me. I have to ask her to send me the pics, she took them with her phone so I can post them for advice. (CONT)

I like the dress, but I don't think it's the one. I LOVE the veil though! I originally thought about just wearing a bird cage veil, but I tried on a chapel length veil and it looked GORGEOUS! So, lets see what I end up choosing veil wise. As for dresses I have a feeling this is going to be a longer search than I thought. I don't know why I'm being so picky. The only dresses I like are out of reach budget wise (like 5k and up). So, it's going to take a few boutiques and some great consultants to guide me to the right one!

How many dresses have you tried on and how many different places did you go before you found the one? Also, how long was your search-1 week, 1 month, more? Just curious Smiley smile

Hey which alfred angelo were you at today? I was at alfred Angelo for bridesmaid dresses in Brea! That would be crazy if we were at the same one!

Anyway, I tried on 64 dresses mostly because I loved dressing up and seeing so many beautiful dresses! I started shopping in October and ordered in december, I shopped in colorado with my family then in hawaii. So I went to 9 shops total! I actually ended up with a dress I saw online and finally found it in a shop and it was beautiful! Don't give up, there are tons of beautiful dresses out there!!

That's a lot, but Im glad you love your dress Smiley smile I know they are so many gorgeous dresses, but why must they be so much! Lol, but thank you I won't give up I can't Smiley smile I only have 9 more months to go, so each weekend and some weekdays will be devoted to dress shopping until I find my perfect one Smiley smile

If today was only the first day then you shouldn't fret. It will get better. I went to two different stores, a david's bridal where I spontaneously tried on 5 dresses with my parents. Then I went to a bridal outlet store 2.5 hours away and was determined to find my dress this time with my mom, MIL, grandmother inlaw, MOH and one of my bridsmaids. We went on a Tuesday morning so we basically had the whole store to ourselves. I tried on 13 dresses there before I made my final decision. Good luck on your next dress search, I'm sure your perfect dress is right around the corner. Oh and can't wait to see pics!

@Chang ahh that would have been funny though if you were there! Someone at the store was trying on the bright red wedding dress and that was pretty amazing, I wanted to try it just for fun! There was really a great bridesmaid dress selection though, better than David's Bridal in my opinion!

And yeah 64 was a lot, although all the ones I tried were under 2k, I loved quite a few! I'd look online at some designers like Maggie Sottero, Allure, Kitty Chen (my second choice dress was this designer), and maybe those will impress you and fit in your budget. Definitely be open to new things, have fun!

I tried on more than 50 dresses, 12 boutiques, 3 states. I actually ended up buying my allure couture dresses as a sole site unseen from a random boutique in Idaho for $1100 vs 5k in store.

I too love the expensive gowns but I couldn't resist a good deal. Have you tried preowned wedding dresses.com? Or look up lace bridal on facebook; they sell designer dress samples.

Lace bridal is where I bought mine. They ship it to you, you have two days to decide if you want to keep it or you can ship it back and they only charge a $35 return fee.

You can have your cake and eat it too!

I tried on 5- I was getting discouraged because I had my heart set on tea length, but I'm just under 5 ft and every tea length looked floor length to me. My attendant picked a dress that I had bypassed because it looked a little plain had I ended up loving it, with a beaded belt it was perfect!

1 store, 3 dresses. The first one was the one I knew I wanted (from the picture online) and it looked great. I tried on 2 others half-heartedly, and went back to the first. I was in and out within an hour.

4 different dress appointments, three different stores. I don't know how many dresses... probably 3-6 per appointment. This is the one, found on an appointment on a whim with my BMs on a vacation in Ohio!

This afternoon will be store #8 and dresses #???? I bet it's over 60 at this point. Sigh. I'm beginning to think I should've just had one custom made, but with as much detail and beading as I'm wanting I'm pretty sure it would be totally out of budget. Good luck, it wasn't this hard for me the first time I got married so I know it isn't this hard for everyone.

At the boutique yesterday, the girl next to me found her's after just 4 dresses. I didn't even know her and I knew that was her dress based on her reaction and the way she glowed in it. But she kept debating bc "it's only the 4th dress I've tried". Which I totally get, bc I too am always wondering what else is out there. But in the end she got it and was done!

I tried on about 12 different dresses between 2 stores, and when I found the one I started crying as soon as I stepped up to the mirror, so I knew it was the one!!

1 dress appointment and 5 dresses. The dress I got was a dress I fell in love with online and was the fourth dress I tried on. I didn't expect it to be that easy though.

I went to 4 shops, probably tried on 20-25 dresses. Found my dress at the last appointment, first dress I tried on there.

Oh no Laura! (And yes I've become personally invested in your dress hunt. I'm just so sad you've had such a hard time.) I sent you a message to connect. What happened to the dresses? They seemed like such good contenders?

I went to 3 salons, tried on probably over 18 dresses in total. (But I spent HOURS crazy insane hours searching for dresses online.). Most of it pointless though because I wanted a specific dress and the other dresses I tried on, I just couldn't pull the trigger on until I tried on the dream dress. Even after I finally tried that dream dress (first dress of the appointment) my family made me try on more because they couldn't believe it happened "so quick and easy" especially after driving over 2 hours to get to the salon.

I agree that dress shopping is rough. I've been to 4 places, including David's Bridal. The first appointment was a total disaster--nothing fit even a little bit. It was just mortifying. DB was sort of disastrous as well, but at least some of the dresses fit.

The last two places I've been to were significantly better, and the place I went to yesterday was great. Everything fit, the consultant was great, etc. The biggest problem is that the store was 3 hours from where I live.

Now I'm torn between two dresses that are fine. Everyone seems to like them, and I like them too. But I'm not sure they are quite right. But I'm not sure anything is going to be exactly perfect. I'm not the kind of person who will get super excited about a dress, but I feel like I should feel something.

But the whole dress shopping experience is so awful, I'm not sure I want to go again. I feel like I need to pick between the two that everyone liked and just be done. But then I'm sure I will have dress regret. Ugh, haha.

I went to 3 shops and tried on about 30 dresses. I made the mistake of shopping for my dress too soon then having buyers remorse. I bought a pretty Maggie Sottero gown but it was a sleeveless ball gown. Pretty much everything I said I didn't want so deal with selling that dress after the wedding. I went to DB and tried on about 10 dresses there. I think sometimes us ladies get confused with idea that it's this magical moment and if we don't it's not the one. Lol the dress I bought is a beautiful off the shoulder Oleg Cassini gown. It made me look so tiny and very elegant. Momma cried so that was good enough for me! (:
