At long, long last I had my very last fitting and FINALLY (2 weeks out) got to see my veil. I'm so happy to share pictures with you, but I also wanted to say a little bit about the process, because maybe it will help one of you!

The Dress:

You might remember I asked for sleeves to be added to my dress because our wedding would originally have been in very early spring in the Southern Highlands, which tends to be quite chilly, especially after the sun sets. Well.. we had to move our wedding to late summer due to covid, and I was then very worried about being too hot! Well, my final fitting, in what I can only assume was a message from the universe, the alterations lady simply couldn't get the sleeves to stay up. They kept sliding down and just really weren't working. So, we removed them. I think if the dress had been made like that to begin with, I would have loved them, but it wasn't and there's no point trying to make something work, only for the end result to be less pleasing than the original would have been.

I mention this because I think it's important to a. be aware alterations are not a magic wand. There are limitations to what it can do, so MAKE SURE YOU LOVE YOUR DRESS HOW YOU BUY IT, Just in case! And also because b. if I've learned anything through planning our wedding, it's the importance of being flexible, and not getting too attached to an idea or a plan! Keep your mind open - sometimes things happen for a reason!

The Veil:

I FINALLY got my veil! This thing is HUGE y'all! It is SO romantic and filmy - she told me it was four meters (just over 13 feet) long, an a good meter (3 feet) longer than my train! However, we all agreed it was a bit much to handle, and she cut it down to about a foot longer than my train, which is much more manageable.

Are we ready? ON to the pictures!

This one is to show the length of my veil. I wanted something super filmy and plain, but also BIG and DRAMATIC! My alterations lady delivered for sure!

This one is to show the front - also shows the sleeves fully removed

And the bustle. The ribbons would be tied in a bow on the day, but we didn't do that for the fitting.

Thank you so much! And haha, you've got a good memory! The hoop fit the dress itself, but it was too big for the lining so it looked weird. I'm ok with this smaller hoop, but I don't like how some of the actual hoop marks show through, so I thought I'd trot along to a fabric store and buy some extra tulle to make an extra petticoat for myself.

And the bracelet immediately got caught on the veil and was generally in the way, so I decided not to wear it. Now without sleeves though, I might wear one of my other, smooth bracelets! Still deciding on that one!

You, ma'am are unforgettable (in a good way). It's unfortunate that the big hoop didn't fit how you wanted it, but I'm glad you're happy with the smaller one (or will be at least once you get an extra petticoat underneath - side note - *super* impressed you can make one!).

Sucks that the bracelet got caught, but at least you discovered it now instead of later! I wonder about pearls? They would certainly go with the timelessness of your look. (To be fair, though, I'm partial, since that's what I wore lol)

lol on your side note, don't be too impressed yet, I haven't attempted it! I also... don't have a sewing machine. So this will be entertaining.

And I do have a pearl bracelet and was considering it! The only thing is (and I know this is stupid) it was a gift from an old boss a million years ago and I don't want to be thinking about work/that workplace on my wedding day? It's super dumb but I want everything to be... joyful pieces that make me feel supported and loved.

I do have a beautiful silver bangle with two little rabbits on it that might be an option...

It is these rabbits, but the bangle is not so square - I will have to consider. We have a LOT of rabbits across our day and I kind of love that about it, haha!

    Haha, me too!

AND I MADE IT!! It took me several hours of hand sewing and I don't know yet whether it will work the way I want, but I collect the dress tonight and intend to immediately go home and test it out (husband-to-be will be banned from our spare room for the duration). It would be more sensible to do it at the alteration lady's place, but I don't want her to see my lame sewing attempts, haha!

Edited to add - here it is! I made it sit fairly low because I was worried if I made it too high-waisted, it would get stuck under the bodice. Please ignore our bomb-site of a spare room, which is crammed full of wedding things, haha

Omg how exciting!! Your dress and veil are BEAUTIFUL and they look so good on you! What kind of bustle is that? My dress has a similar train but I haven't figured out what kind of bustle I want to add.

Aww, thank you! It's a single-point bustle - so it only has one button, and the rest of the fabric is just tucked inside. Your alterations person should be able to tell you what type of bustle would work best - i originally wanted one of those flipped ones that tucks the train up and inside the skirt but apparently it wouldn't work with my dress.

Kate Middleton will need to sit her but down when you come walking down that aisle. You gave me serious royal vibes!
