i get embarrassed about my ring size. Is it wrong to want to get. a smaller diamond?

I have considered asking to get a smaller diamond. I don’t want to hurt my fiancés feelings and I know he was so happy to propose with this. I always thought I’d be okay with a bigger ring and now I feel self conscious and barely ware it. I’m not sure how to approach it.

When I first got my ring I didn’t think I would get used to the size of the diamond (2.5 karats) but loved the setting. A few years later I realize that I still really love my ring and am so glad we didn’t exchange it for something smaller.

I would be worried about downsizing it for the reason the previous poster mentioned- what if you regret it down the line? Could you maybe wear it on a chain around your neck for awhile and see if it grows on you? If it doesn’t, maybe it could be something you wear only on special occasions. Or you could have it made into a necklace. If you plan on having children, would it be something you’d want to pass down as an heirloom?

“Bigger” is relative. Bigger than what? Your finger, your budget, the rings your friends have or is common where you live? Did you ever discuss preferences or was the ring a total surprise?

I would give it time. If you still don’t like it, the you can stop wearing it when you get married and just wear your wedding band. There are so many things you can do with the stone! You can always have it reset into a pendant or wear as a necklace. Good luck!

I think this depends on how disappointed you are to not be wearing your ring every day. Will you feel fine once you’re married to just wear your wedding band and save your engagement ring for special occasions? Or do you really want a ring that works with your everyday life? A lot of women who didn’t see the ring before the proposal have had to let their fiancé know they would prefer something different. You just have to watch wording and tone so as not to hurt their feelings (and here it sounds like you could depend on the practicality. Is it so big that you keep hitting it against things or snagging your clothes on it?). You can also wait and see if you get used to it, but I would find out what the return/exchange window is. It’s probably less of a sting on your fiancé if he can get his money back to use on a new ring.

I'm sure he'd rather you have something you love and wear daily than a bigger stone that sits in a drawer. Talk to him about it.
