i don't really wear Makeup and I'm scared!!! lol

Ebony, on February 18, 2020 at 4:26 PM Posted in Hair and Makeup 0 11

So I'm kind of scared of the whole Hair and Makeup thing! I hate eyelashes and foundation lol I've actually never even worn foundation for real so i'm scared haha! My comfort zone is eyebrows, some eye-shadow, and lipstick (which i only ever wear matte because I hate getting lipstick on stuff) ....yeah I know i'm difficult lol But I mean my Fiance doesn't even like makeup; if he had it his way id walk down the aisle bare face (not gonna happen lol)

At this point I don't even know what to tell my makeup artist during the trial run...is light on the foundation even a thing? lol

You also don’t have to wear make up. I’ve never been into make up on a regular day or a dressy day I am make up free. So for my wedding I did the same aha I just wanted to be myself and do what I was comfortable with

I'm 100% with you, I was in the same boat. My daily makeup is eyeliner, brow pencil, and mascara. Maybe some eyeshadow and lipstick for a fancy occasion. But face products have never been for me, I think I've had a "full-face" once in my life and I felt SO uncomfortable.

Everything I read online kept saying that you should wear light coverage foundation/concealer/contour on your wedding day or your face will look "washed out" in professional quality photos. I will be the first to tell you that it's total bologna and not at all true. I did my own makeup with my usual stuff (nothing on my skin) for our professional engagement photos and I couldn't be happier with the way they turned out. I looked like myself and most importantly FELT like myself. I can't stand the weight of face makeup, just not my thing.

You can ask a makeup artist to do very light/natural makeup (some do airbrush which I've heard is "weightless), but I had "light/natural makeup" for my boudoir shoot and I didn't even recognize myself. The natural rose in my cheeks was gone, my light freckles were gone, it was too weird. I took the majority of it off after the makeup artist left.

If you're 100% opposed to wearing a full-face like I am, I would tell your makeup artist to do your trial with only the products you use. Then see how you feel and if it's not what you're looking for, she could always build up from there. That's what a trial is for! Best of luck Smiley smile

This was a very long response, but I feel very strongly about this Smiley xd

Yes! Light & natural is for sure a common request as long as you find a good experienced artist that knows what they are doing and you do a trial before to confirm. The better shape your skin is in and the better skincare routine you have prior, the less foundation you'll want to wear anyway.

Totally get you! I never wear makeup... not even eyeliner or mascara. I have told my stylist numerous times of this, and part of me wants to go with a natural look, while part of me wants to go all out with a look I could never pull of myself, since I'm paying for it. I'm definitely nervous, though! I think as long as we communicate everything with our stylist, everything turns out okay Smiley smile

Just tell them you want a natural look but even bare face we all have some little things we can cover up because if you think about it you are going to be professionally photographed. I am doing a natural style because I know my fiance prefers me that way and does not like the glam or bold make up look on me. Even dark lipsticks he hates so I wanna stick with that as I also do not want to look back at pics and think I could have looked better.

Natural makeup is definitely a thing! I was and still am a little unsure about fake eyelashes. Had them done for the engagement photos, and he picked super large drama lashes lol. When I went to my trial, she put on a pair of much more natural lashes. Make sure you tell them you want a more natural look and ask for light lashes. You got this girl!

Engagement photos, gigantic lashes that I had a time getting comfy with.

I'm all natural and I feel the same way I wonder if there is a make up that can't rub off as easily.

I plan on doing my own makeup. I like my bold lip colors, mascara and a little eye color, but I won’t do a lot of foundation, just enough to get rid of the shine and redness.

I'm the same way. I never wear makeup day to day, just some moisturizer/sunscreen and Burt's bees chapstick. I don't like the feel of any other makeup, and even on special occasions usually only do a little makeup for my eyes and lips.

I looked for a makeup artist that did more natural style makeup, because I just wanted a little bit more for the wedding day. I just searched the vendors in my area on weddingwire and then checked out their profiles/websites/instagram/etc

When I went in for my trial she asked me to bring pictures that showed what I wanted, and when we were looking over them she suggested airbrushing. It felt pretty weightless to me, and didn't bother me at all like regular foundation does. It also stayed on really well all day (we went and did engagement pictures after my hair and makeup trial). So that might be something to look into.

Or as PP have suggested, if you'd be more comfortable go without makeup. You're going to be so happy that you'll be glowing anyways, and will be in a lovely dress so everyone will think you look beautiful

I mean, you don't have to wear makeup if you don't want to. It's your wedding. You get to choose. But if you feel like you need to or decide that you want to, I would suggest (when it's safe to do so) checking out a trial at like Sephora or Macy's and seeing what works and what doesn't.
