i don’t like my wedding dress after alterations

Shannon, on November 8, 2018 at 12:47 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 14
When I first tried on the wedding dress sample, I didn’t have this issue but I got my wedding dress in and I didn’t noticed that there was an excess of fabric Below the chest area until I went to get it altered. I asked if it could be fixed and she tried her best but after it was altered, I found out it had more of a major crease in it and it’s pretty noticeable. She tried taking out the cups she put in but that made it worse. So now there is a permanent crease. Also, after she shortened the dress, it changed the way the dress was shaped at the bottom and instead of flowing it makes a prevelent tulip shape that I never wanted. I know the dress is not the end-all be-all and it’s more about the marriage than I dress you wear once. But I really wanted to feel good about myself for my wedding day and now I feel like I’m gonna hate looking at my dress. I don’t wanna spend anymore money to fix the issue or buy a whole new address so I think I’m just going to wear it as it is. I just needed to vent about this to someone. All include some before and after photos so you can see what I’m talking about.

Who did your alterations? Do they have a policy for refunding your payment (even if partially) if you are unsatisfied? Assuming it wasn't cut too short, the hem could be let down to meet the floor again and sweep like it did when you tried it on. As for the bubble below the bust, that is something she needs to either fix or refund your money for so that you can take it to another seamstress to fix.

That should be able to be fixed. Looks like the panel in the middle needs to be pulled up a bit on one side. Should flatten it out and she should be able to fix it for you because it clearly wasn’t there from the start

Agree w previous posters- that puckering should be able to be fixed. I wouldn’t be happy either.

Looks like adding some spaghetti straps to pull up the bust might help (or shorten the bodice which would be a more major project)

I would consult with another person who can do alterations... and if they can fix it I would ask that first lady to refund something for their mistake!!

    Totally agree with pp.

They need to refund your money and go elsewhere.

I would contact the manager of whoever did the alterations, to get a refund. It's clear the fabric is pulling on you tightly and making the crease. I'd go to another alterations person to see if they can fix it.

Ouch. I agree with the pp. Demand a refund and find someone else that knows what they are doing because whoever did this has no clue clearly.

Thanks for the feedback. The situation is complicated because my mom’s friend is the seamstress and she still has to work on the bustle for my dress. She did my sisters dresses and she did so well with theirs. She also lives farther away from me and I have to work most days so I have to travel to get the alterations done. I am also really tall and money is tight so trying to find a new dress in time just isn’t an option for me. It had to be special ordered to be long enough. By time I go and get it, I feel like it will be too late to find another person who can try and fix it. It’s a few weeks till the wedding and I don’t have the dress with me. There are things you don’t anticipate when you are getting married for the first time and this was just one I had not thought would be an issue. I’m sure some people will think I’m crazy but ive been struggling with feeling confident about my body so this I thought was gonna be a day I would feel really pretty and it’s just something I will have to work through. If nothing else, I have a great man who loves me and wants to spend the rest of his life with me.

That would definitely be frustrating! First, your dress is beautiful! Second, definitely fixable. I would ask another seamstress to do it though, despite the first being a personal relationship.. you definitely should feel like you love your dress, and proper alterations can do that!!

Hi Shannon! FutureMrsD says it perfectly here. I am sorry to hear that this happened with your alterations. I would contact your alterations specialists if you have not already, about your options and if you can get a refund.

You shouldn't have to pay at all. If they messed up the bust area then they need to fix it on their dime. I would speak with a manager and make them fix it. if they aren't willing to fix then get a refund. That is not acceptable at all. I do love this dress on you though
