i don’t like my engagement pictures...

I am less than happy with my engagement pictures. They look awkward and not well posed, and natural looks even worse. Am I being too harsh and picky?? I need objective Opinions. i don’t like my engagement pictures... 1

I would consider the photo posted a "natural" photo. Those are usually my favorite photos and I think your picture looks great. However, you know yourself best- if you are unhappy then pick a different photographer for your wedding photos. Make sure you look at their social media in-depth to ensure you like their style of photography.

Thank you Anna! His wedding stuff is lovely but the engagement needs work. And do you think it makes a difference that I am having a male photographer? I know that’s a little different, most wedding photographers are female and maybe more suited for bridal stuff.

I had a male photographer and I thought he was great! I think it just depends on their style.

I was the same way. I had a few that I liked but for the most part, wasn't a fan. It allowed me to talk to the photographer about what I liked and what I didn't like. This should help the wedding photos come out better.

Try to articulate what you like and what you don't like.

I picked my favor and made it my profile picture. I did not post the whole set.

FWIW, I hated most of my engagement photos as well. I ended up heavily filtering them and using one in black and white for our save the dates. In retrospect, I wish I would have used my HMUA for that day since I look washed out and my hair is a frizzy mess and fell within 10 minutes of us shooting. I was pale, needed a manicure, and forgot my spanx. I just didn't feel confident and I think that definitely bleeds through the camera. We aren't going to do a redo since we got some usable shots, but we don't have a whole roll of adorable photos like I wanted.

I personally think your photos look great. But I do understand where you are coming from. With mine we had close to 90 photos and I only liked about 15-20. But still forcing myself to get past certain things. The worst was a pose was mostly natural, but she had my FH put his hand in his pockets and then had me place one hand on top of his jeans. So it looked like I was trying to grab something 🤦🏼‍♀️.
It’s just something you’ll want to have a discussion for your wedding to explain what you do like and don’t.

I don’t think having a male photographer makes a difference (mine is a husband/wife team with both being lead photographers), but I think what you’re seeing is poor lighting/editing. Did you take the pictures in the middle of the day? It looks like really harsh midday light that wasn’t edited well after the shoot. You and your fiancé look amazing, but it’s being overshadowed by the poor lighting. Are all of his pictures edited like this? Is your wedding in the middle of the day? I personally would look around at other photographers, only because being able to control light is a really necessary skill of a photographer. I would hate for you to come back and be upset because your wedding photos aren’t the way you want them!

I think you guys look great. Only thing I don’t like too much is the lighting. A lot of photographers do shoots during “golden hour” right before sunset because the lighting is much softer and photographs better. I think it’s something you can talk over with them.

I think the pose by the water is kind of awkward, but the natural one you posted originally, I love!

With my engagement pictures, there were several I did not like for many reasons, but I found about 20-30 I did like. I had certain poses and props I wanted, and those ended up being my least favorite pictures, lol. Luckily our photographer had some experience and way better ideas.

It's easy to be over critical of yourself. I agree with others about talking with your photographer on what you did and did not like. Good luck!Smiley heart

They seem nice to me. I think a trick someone told me was to have the person constantly take photos even in between poses. Some of my favorite shots from my wedding were candid unposed ones in between posed shots because they were natural

I'm going to give my honest opinion but I personally think they look like something anyone could had done. I love natural poses but even the editing seems off to me. I Guess the question is how much did you pay and is it worth bickering over ?
