i chipped my moissanite ring !!

Or so I thought! There was a scratch or chip or blemish on the corner of my center stone that wasn’t there earlier yesterday and I freaked out. I deep cleaned it the way I normally do but I could clearly still see and feel the chip. I was so upset because I have only had it for 2 months!!!! So I sent an email to the jeweler with photos and essentially went off and told him how disappointed I am because he was so highly recommend from other brides. He wrote back saying moissanites don’t easily chip and that it’s very unusual but that he would go into production immediately to replace the ring. It was a satisfactory resolution but the disappointment in the fact that my brand new custom ring was chipped can’t be resolved. Like even if I get a replacement, just knowing that my new ring can chip again is just not sitting well with my soul.

So I did some research to see if this is common with moissanite rings (it’s not) but what is common is a hard to remove film that can appear to be a defect on the ring. It can’t be removed with regular cleaning, but requires a special cloth and vigorous cleaning. Well I don’t have the particular cloth but was curious to see if it was in fact a film on the surface so I took a safety pin and begin to gently scratch at where the “chip” appears...lo and behold it started coming off!!!! I was able to gently remove the film and clean it again and the ring is literally flawless 😩😩
I wrote back to the jewelry apologizing for assuming it was an issue with the manufacturing or craftsmanship of the ring and told him how embarrassed I am for going off and that a replacement ring is unnecessary. He was soooo understanding and actually apologized to me because he never told us that special cleaning would be a thing we should do from time to time. Wow I can’t believe this!! But thank God my ring is in perfect condition and I won’t be needing a replacement and thank God for the amazing jewelry who was so understanding.
Any moissy brides experience what appears to be a defect in their ring? How often do you clean it or how often does this film appear? I am including pics of what I thought was a chip, though it might be hard to see in the photos i chipped my moissanite ring !! 1

My ring is moissanite too. I haven’t had this happen, but I’m glad I know now in case I notice something similar!

Right! I wish I had known before I sent that email but at least now I know. The cloth is called the “sunshine polishing cloth” I’m going to go ahead an order some from amazon in case I need it in the future

Makes my moissy look shiny and new, and gets rid of that oil slick

I had a similar experience. I had a smudge on my moissanite center stone that would NOT go away and it looked like a scratch went right down the middle after I had only worn the ring for a month. I was freaking out about it and what finally worked was a silver cleaning cloth....something about those chemicals took the smudge off right away. Whew!

My current routine is to submerge my ring in a general jewelry cleaner once a week while I shower, use the little brush included with the cleaner to scrub it all over, and then use the silver cleaning cloth every other week. Keeps it SO sparkly!

I love moissanite. Especially in sunlightSmiley smile
