i can't decide which dress!!!

Julie, on September 5, 2020 at 4:36 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 22
I have two dress possibilities from David's Bridal. I won a dress in their Instagram contest for frontline workers. Part of my problem in choosing is that I'm in love with a designer dress that (Thanks to COVID) I can no longer afford.

Dress option #1 is a sheath shape that I had to size up 3 sizes in order to hide my mommy tummy, and I will meed need a lot of alterations to the top to fit correctly. Its very heavy. The train literally scrapes the ground and drags and rolls like dead weight- no flowiness at all. I love the sparkly fabric and its the closest fabric to the dress I'm in love with.
The second option is a geometric shape- I'd get it in Solid Ivory instead of the contrasting colors. It has a little sparkle. But- I don't like the print. I think it looks like a giraffe print. I think the shape of the dress is much more flattering, but it doesn't sparkle and the pattern isn't my style. It feels plain on me.i can't decide which dress!!! 1

Also, the bodice isnt very structured, so it moves oddly and kind of wrinkles when you move. Its much lighter than option #1, and the train is much more moveable.
Dress #3 is the Ashley and Justin dress I'm head over heels for, but will never be able to afford i can't decide which dress!!! 3

I love the dress #1. But you can't go wrong with either.

Does option 2 come in a lighter color? I think the color of the 1st dress is better, but I like the second one better on your body and design-wise. Are you leaning towards any in particular? How much time do you have until your wedding?

I just reread your post. Don't get either of you don't like them. Alterations will be expensive, and if the first dress feels heavy just for a try-on you're going to be miserable on your wedding day

You have a couple of months I think to keep looking. Have you tried Azazie?

It does come in solid ivory, which I would definitely go for in that dress, but they don't carry samples in that color selection. I think this is the only picture of the solid ivory online, but the ivory of the pattern and the ivory of the dress aren't perfectly matched. I'm not really leaning towards either, which is why I'm having trouble deciding. I like the fabric of 1 and the shape and movement of the other. If I could have option 2 with the fabric of option 1, we'd be in business!i can't decide which dress!!! 9

We've actually postponed for at least a year, but I'm trying to decide with dresses from David's- I get a free dress from them for winning their Instagram contest, and Covid has decimated our wedding budget.

I think dress #2 is more flattering on your figure but I agree with a pp to see if it comes in a lighter color?

But the dress itself is free? It doesn't have caveats? How do you feel about lace? Or do you NEED sequins?

Do you have a deadline to decide? Or can you wait and see what their spring line looks like? Also, I would go back in if you can and just check the off the rack dresses. I found my dress for a steal, and it was just a hidden gem one of the consultants pulled. If you're picking between those two, I would go with the second in the lighter color. The shape definitely suits you very well, as does the pattern.

I feel like option 2 is extremely flattering! But I agree if you have more time to decide maybe wait and try something else on if you don’t feel like either one is “the one” it’s your day and you deserve to feel your best!

Unfortunately I have to use it by December 31, and it has to be a dress that's in-stock online. So, the further I go out and dresses sell out, the fewer options I have.

I kind of hate lace unfortunately, which I feel is like 95% of the dresses out right now. Caveats are that if its over $1000, I pay the difference. It has to be a dress that's in-stock online, and I have to use it by December 31st. So, with the fall line being out, as dresses sell out the fewer options I have.

Okay. How much (if any) do you want to pay out of pocket? Also, ANY lace is bad? Or just an all lace dress. Like is lace appliqué fair game?

I'm pretty anti-lace. I haven't seen any lace or lace appliques that I like so far. The less I spend the better, so a couple hundred out of pocket I would be ok with. It's kind of a "make the best of it" situation at this point.

So I'm not totally sure I understood the numbering system from your post (is option #3 the dream dress?), so hopefully this matches what you meant, but I think option #2 would look great on you in the ivory color. Once it was in your size/tailored to fit you perfectly, I don't think you'd have the same problem with it wrinkling when you move because it wouldn't really move at all and I think it would be super flattering. And it will look way less giraffe-y when it doesn't have any (vaguely) giraffe-like colors. Also, I definitely think you should pick the David's bridal dress that you feel most comfortable in. If you decide later on that you can afford to buy another dress, that's still an option, but you won't have to and at least you'll know you have a wedding dress that makes you feel good.

If I'm being honest, i'm saying neither because you have a dream dress already and you'll be constantly comparing any dress to it unless you pick another dress that beats it. From your text it seems like you're settling and picking dresses that have elements to your dream dress. I don't want you to look back on pictures and all that comes to mind is how you weren't in love with your dress. Could you shop elsewhere, like a boutique. I bought mine from a bridal shop and it was under budget and so suprised with options. Good luck in picking a dress!

I’d wait it out for a few months! I currently work at David’s and we usually start getting more dresses for spring around the holidays.

So sorry to hear about your dream dress! It's gorgeous!! Out of your new options, I actually like the first one on you.
