Hurricane Season Puerto Rico Wedding... Help!

Crystal, on July 11, 2020 at 1:45 PM Posted in Planning 0 3
Im recently engaged but my fiancé and I have been discussing wedding stuff for quite a while. We’re set on Puerto Rico and l’m really stuck on an October (10-01-21) wedding, however a lot of people have been warning me about hurricane season. I’m super nervous about planning it all and a hurricane wiping out my wedding 😭 also not to mention the pandemic and how it will affect us a year from now :/ super nervous! I need some advice. Anyone live in PR, have/or had a wedding there during hurricane season?
Thank you in advance!

Not from PR or have had a wedding there but I am in Florida and yes the hurricanes can hit that late. It is rare but I honestly suggest have a back up plan so you do not have to postpone. Also, I would with any vendors or flights double check their postponement or cancellation policy in the event that a hurricane does come you are not out any money because some vendors do not care about an act of God they will keep their money. Unfortunately, FL and the Caribbean could be prone to hurricanes but we don't know if we will get one.

You'd be taking on a pretty big risk that is likely very small, but you just never know. And the risk isn't even necessarily that it would hit on or around your wedding day necessarily...when Hurricane Maria hit in September 2017 (so in this case before your actual date), it crippled the island for many months afterward (no power, no infrastructure, etc). I would just suggest having a well-thought out Plan B in place that you can easily pivot to if needed.

That's actually towards the end of the Hurricane Season, so I wouldn't stress too much. Also, most venues will offer a weather contingency in the event of such an occurrence. The contingency would also include the timing of when they will advice you that they are moving it to an indoor space and the prep work that would come with that. (I live in Florida)
