Hudson Valley NY courthouse wedding

Mrs. Jjb, on November 6, 2017 at 10:19 PM Posted in New York Planning 0 5

Hi everyone, I'm seriously considering canceling the traditional wedding ceremony and reception and cutting it back to a courthouse ceremony and dinner with family. Problem is I can't find any info on where courthouse ceremonies take place in Orange County, NY. The city obviously does them at city hall but the internet is suspiciously void of anything north of Manhattan.

Has anyone on here done this or looked into it? Please share anything you have found!

Thanks!

Not all court houses do weddings but it's easy enough fo find out; google the towns around you, go to their website, call the clerk and ask. If you're going to go to dinner, why don't you do a little ceremony with an officiant at your restaurant? There are loads of little restaurants along the Hudson with private rooms and some really great officiants up there.

I've googled to the end of the valley and can't find anything. I wonder if any of the local courts do them.

I feel like doing a small ceremony at a restaurant would be intrusive to their normal business. Have you done any ceremonies along the river at a restaurant? Any suggestions?

Newburgh doesn't do them? Check this site?

I would be surprised if Newburgh doesn't do them.

(I'm from there that's the only reason I'm talking about it. And no, I don't admit to that very often since it doesn't have the best reputation).

    Good luck!

They'll totally tell you if that's the case, lol....many of our Saturday restaurant weddings start at noon and end before the start of dinner service, but some are at night.

    Try:

Hudson House and the Half Moon House

Forget the county level -- Look up specific towns, cities or villages. City of Newburgh, Town of Walkill, City of Middletown, Village of New Paltz, City of Beacon, Town of Fishkill, etc. All should have judges (or mayors, in the case of cities or villages) who are authorized to marry, but only within their own city/village/town limits. If your chosen restaurant happens to be outside their jurisdiction, you'd have to do the real ceremony at their office, and then they can do a "mock ceremony" at your venue in front of your guests.

I did a wedding last year where a NY State Senator presided... so if you have the right connections, there's another option!

I've been out of the Hudson Valley area too long to be able to recommend specific restaurants on the river, and even when I did live down there, it was on the other side, near Poughkeepsie. But what about the Hudson Valley wineries? I've done weddings at wineries in the Finger Lakes and a distillery along the St. Lawrence River... I'd expect the Hudson Valley wineries are similarly capable of hosting private events.
