How white is too white?

Rebecca, on September 21, 2018 at 7:33 AM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 13

Hey friends,

I am going to the wedding of FH's cousin this weekend and I am not really sure what to wear. She definitely wanted to go for a "fall" theme but I mean it is still 90 degrees outside and looks like summer. So I didn't want to wear super bright colors, but also wasn't ready for a fall dress.... I do have one dress that is super cute and works for both seasons, it is white and black plaid. I am nervous though... I know I am the first to side-eye a lady wearing an all white dress to a wedding, but how white is too white? Is white and black plaid too white for a wedding??

Do you have a photo of the dress? When you say plaid my first instinct is to say it’s probably fine but without seeing with the dominant color in the plaid is that’s hard to say .

I avoid white at all costs, if you are second guessing it, someone else at the wedding will too.

Yeah if it's close enough to white to question it, it's probably best just to be safe and wear something else.

I would go with a fall dress, as long as it won't be too warm! When you say fall dress, I'm not sure if you mean sweater/long sleeved or just fall colors?

I think if it's a pattern with equal parts white and black you'll be fine. But if it's predominately white then maybe pick something else. I think bright colors are fine though especially if it's still warm out where you are.

Hi Rebecca! I think that a white dress with a pattern that covers most of the white should be fine! Could you possibly add a colored shawl or sash to break up all the white?

I think if you're questioning it then I'd avoid wearing it and look for something else. Even though its 90 out, Saturday is the first day of fall technically! You could still get away with any fall colored dress as long as it isn't a sweater dress where you'd sweat!

Totally agree with this. If in doubt, I'd pick something else.

Sort of difficult, I find I am drawn to dresses that are white or with a white base now...maybe because of the circumstances Smiley tongue Smiley diamond I've been in your position. I don't want anyone to have reason to talk about me or think that I'm rude, so I just pick something else.

Agree with PPs who say if you’re questioning it, just find a different dress. It’s not worth the risk!

I would avoid white at all costs. And if you are questioning it, it's likely too white

I'm with PPs. without seeing it it is hard to tell but if you're even questioning it then just wear something else.

There's absolutely nothing wrong with a black and white dress. I think women make way too much of this. No one is going to confuse a guest for the bride. Also, a guests outfit doesn't need to match the décor.
