How to word you’re not having a registry

Bianca, on July 1, 2020 at 8:08 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 14
We aren’t making a registry because we are already at full capacity with baby toys all over our townhouse that we rent. A house doesn’t seem within the near future so I don’t need to register for a home I won’t have anytime soon. So I even need to mention that we didn’t register ?

There’s no need to mention registries (or lack thereof) or gifts at all. If someone asks, you can tell them you have all the home goods you need and you don’t have a registry.

Usually registry information only goes on a shower invitation so as long as you’re not having a shower you’re good! If anyone asks about a registry you can say you don’t have one. Most people will give cash/check.

Registry information is spread via word of mouth, except when it is included on the shower invites. If you're not registering, then those who normally would be asked by guests where to shop (parents and attendants) would let them know there isn't one. No other mention is made. Be prepared for guests to still buy you gifts regardless as many people don't give monetary gifts.

If you’re not registering you don’t need to say so explicitly

I agree with folks above. Separately, though, I know a lot of people ranging from those with years of school and military service ahead, to housing with no closet-cellar-garage- attic storage, who have asked for a storage unit, with people adding on monthly fees, instead of registering for dishes and towels they are well supplied with. More a wish list item than a registry. But if you are years from a better situation, sometimes $125 a month to store up to 2 rooms of stuff, in one accessible indoor climate controlled storage unit, can be a great thing. My BIL family got one for my sis and BIL , renting 3 months, and they had more than 40 add on months as gifts. Covered totes, or shelves, and you have a place for things baby outgrows, to save for another child. Seasonal things. As long as you start by organizing the space, a few years of excellent storage can be a wonder. It makes your home liveable. Also, things like towels and sheets get worn down to nothing, quickly, and registering for either sets, or things like 40 extra washcloths, and 8-10 bath sheets, in addition to hand and standard bath towels, is something anyone with a kid has need of. And durable stain release tablecloths and cloth napkins are another thing people do not stock up on, and later wish they did. With no home and yard space, you also may find you frequently take advantage of public spaces, picnics or barbecues in parks or at beaches. And bringing your share of things when young families get together is easier with things meant for the job. So maybe look beyond appliances and kitchen goods. If you do not care about particular registry items, you can leave a wishlist with family that is things to be purchased anywhere, and use it to make suggestions to people who are going to buy a shower or wedding gift, and are not folks who give money unless it goes on account for something.

I just made a page on our wedding website that states “The only gift we are requesting is your presence and to celebrate with you.”

We actually opted out of a traditional registry and actually set up a Honeymoon registry through Honeyfund. I was afraid it was going to be tacky but all of our friends and family know we're set on everything and know how much we wanted to travel so it made sense for us. Plus its super easy to set up and your guests can pick out little things to put money towards and come back to it later if they want.

I don’t think we’re going to have a website. Did you need a website in order to have a honey fund?

No I don't have a wedding website set up. Honeyfund gives you a personalized domain you can provide to your guests. If you want you can check out mine to see how we set it up. https://www.honeyfund.com/wedding/clymer-siebert-10-31-2021

Something to be carefully of: honeymoon funds take 5-8% of the money people give you. and watch dates before you sign . Some say, we will keep the fund active for 4 weeks after your honeymoon, and do not make clear, they will therefore not give you a penny until then. Tough to have hundreds or thousands people put in up til a week before your wedding, and none available for the next 5-6 weeks, til after your honeymoon is over. Some give you whatever is in the fund, a week before you marry, and the rest, later.

I was actually really wary of that but Honeyfund let's you decide when to take money (daily, weekly, monthly) and they have a no fee options and the other options have the lowest fees
