How to word a vegetarian option on your RSVP?

Meghan, on April 13, 2017 at 2:11 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 11

Hello!

I am designing our RSVP cards and unsure on how I should word the meal options. We have the option of two plated meals ( Beef Tips in Red Wine Sauce or Chicken Parmigiana), however the venue will also accommodate anyone who requests a vegetarian option - but they don't tell you what it is. It's basically whatever they have available that week. Any advice on how to word that?

Vegetarian: Chef's Choice

Vegetarian Available Upon Request

I'm stumped! Any input is much appreciated!

You could just put, "Beef, Chicken, Vegetable" as your three choices. Most people would get the idea.

We put an area on the rsvp card that said " dietary restrictions" and left a line for them to fill in.

We have a few gluten free and a few vegetarians as well.

We just listed beef chicken vegetarian as options. We hadn't fully committed to our menu when invites were being printed but knew the minimums

Is there an extra charge for the vegetarian meal? If so, I'd add a line for "Dietary Restrictions" and let people fill in if they are vegetarian. Otherwise, I'd treat it as a 3rd meal option and list is simply as Vegetarian.

I agree with everyone that says do it as a third option. I'm a vegetarian and I'm not going to lie I hate when I have to put it as a dietary restriction. I'm not one to make a fuss so if I didn't see it as an option I'd probably just order the dinner and eat the side.

We have three very general options on ours:

    Beef, Fish, Vegetarian

I think your best bet is to list "Beef, Chicken, or Vegetarian". You don't want to list the details for the first two and not the veg, so make it equal. I wouldn't add a line for "dietary restrictions". While guest comfort is top priority, you don't need to add this. If someone has a severe or genuine concern, they will let you know. But if they list it and then you're unable to accommodate, it might seem like a slight.

It makes me laugh when people say "Beef, Chicken, Vegetarian".

So your guests can eat beef, they can eat chicken, or they can eat a vegetarian.

Most people in their replies will tell you if they have dietary issues. If you list all three as options then you may be charged extrafor three selections. Typically at your last meeting before your wedding you let the venue know how many of each entree. So on our timeline we will know where any special meals go.
