How to thank my wedding planner? Unusual situation...

Katie, on December 6, 2014 at 10:50 AM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 4

When I lived in CO, I worked for a wedding planner for a short time. While I decided that event planning wasn't the career path for me, I kept in touch with the owner of the business and we've become friends. Fast forward to this past year, I knew I needed a "month of" as we're planning a CO wedding from FL. Of course, she was my first choice. She's giving us a rocking deal and I am trying to think of the best way to thank her! Shes giving us almost 50% off of the month of coordination package and waiving almost all of the other costs. The only other thing we will pay for is her travel and lodging. On top of that, she is doing so much more than month of planning! She has put together tons of ideas for me, shes scheduling vendor appointments for when we visit CO, etc. Essentially shes giving us a full/partial planning package. Obviously I'm planning on posting a great review and writing her a heartfelt thank you note. But what would be an appropriate thank you gift? Cont. in comments...

Should we just give her a tip? If so, how much would be appropriate? Or should we think of another gift? She works another job on top of her business so I'm sure she could use a massage... We just want to make sure she knows she is SOOO appreciated for her hard work! Thanks everyone!

If she is your friend why not do a real gift? Prehaps a gift card to dinner with maybe some candles or a favorite lotion she might like. If not then just the card. I would say anywhere from 100-300 is a nice gift. I would go for 200. I lile the massage idea a lot by the way!

Thanks @FutureMrsMerritt, I was wondering if that would be better. It feels weird to "tip" your friends!

I would go for a gift because you refer to her as "friend". I think a spa day would be a great gift (maybe a gift card to a nice place in the area).
