How to tell a vednor you are no longer interested?

Molly, on August 11, 2017 at 1:17 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 16

My catering company was working through a rental company on my behalf for tables, chairs etc. I ended up having so many questions my caterer suggested I just contact the rental company directly. I ended up making a few changes to the quote and it was still super out of our budget so I started looking elsewhere. My MOH suggested a vendor that her previous employer partnered with, and that vendor gave me a much batter price and a discount for my MOH's recommendation. How do I tell the old vendor I don't want to use them anymore, after going back and fourth with so many questions/changes for so long.

As long as there is not already a contract in place just tell them you decided to go in another direction

"Thank you so much for your assistance and information, however we have decided to go with a different vendor."

Just tell them "Thank you for your time, but we have decided to go in a different direction"

Did you sign a contract? If not, just send a note- "Thank you for you time, but I decided to go with someone else." (You can make that look nicer and prettier). If you sing a contract, then you lose the deposit and tell them you are no longer interested.

We were required to work with a certain rental company, so just be sure your caterer/venue doesn't require you to use their rental co!

I've worked in the event industry for many years so trust me when I say just straight up tell them you've found someone that works better with your budget. They would rather know you've moved in than to continue spending time and energy in maintaining you as a lead. If they aren't 100% professional about it then they are in the wrong business.

Our venue has certain caterers they require but that's it. Our new rental company actually has our venue as one of their preferred partners so I would assume that they work together a lot.

No contract was signed. Just emails exchanged.

Just tell them....? Just let them know you appreciate their time but you decided to book with someone else.

Please tell them -- don't leave them hanging. You don't even need to give a reason, although they may appreciate it.

I was always just planning to tell them! Of course not telling them is incredibly rude. I was just looking for phrasing.

As long as you let them know, any non-abusive wording is greatly appreciated so they know to stop following up and move on to the next client. If you have a specific reason you chose someone else, let them know.

Thank them for their time, and tell them that you're going with someone else. If they're professionals, they're understand. It's just business.
