Congrats! The very first thing my fiancé and I did was to consider time of year to have our wedding (traveling guests and whatnot). After that we started looking at venues. Once you book your venue you can worry about other vendors.

Your budget dictates every choice you make while planning so you should set that first.

For us, we started looking at venues, but I do agree that budget is going to dictate a lot of your wedding decisions.

We started honing in on our budget after doing initial research on venues, photographers, and catering. Getting an idea of how much things cost let us determine how many people to invite, what we were realistically going to spend, and weigh our options.

Budget. # of Guest list however Venues are the first thing that need to be booked. Most important thing. Catering and photography are next. Most venues have the catering included

I recommend starting with your guest list. From there, you'll be able to set your budget. Once you have a budget you are comfortable with and know your expected guest count, you start researching venues!

    Karla has great advice.

Your budget is going to dictate everything, but setting a budget without knowing your region's costs is just going to lead to frustration.

Check out the "Vendors" and "Planning" links above. They can help guide you on costs, options, and ideas.

Once you have a feel for the average expenses in your area, you can figure out how many people you can afford, what type of wedding you'd like to have, and all that stuff.

    But first and foremost: research!

Congratulations! As other Brides have suggested, we started with major principles. Budget, Date and Guest List. Once you know, or have an idea of, the size of your wedding and how much you have to spend you can go out looking at venues. You will also want to have a date or season in mind when looking at venue's as well.
