How to soften lace jacket??

Brittany, on March 19, 2018 at 1:04 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 11

Hey Guys!!

So I picked my wedding dress and lace jacket up on the 15th. Immediately tried them on when I got home and the lace jacket is very stiff and very uncomfortable. The one I tried on it the store was of course worn in and was comfy. I'm wondering how can I safely soften it up? I thought maybe put it in the dryer on delicate? I'm afraid to mess it up. Anyone have any ideas??

I've never tried it but I would be hesitant to put it in the drier. It just seems like a disaster waiting to happen.

This website seems to be what you're looking for (mild laundry detergent and baking soda). They also have a link for lace trimmed items which gives you more info on shrinkage based on materials. (Please take this advice at your own risk. I've never done it before)

Can you wear it around the house when FH isnt home to try and break it in some?

You could also try steaming it. That helped soften up my underskirt layers.

    Yes! +1 to steaming!
The steam will help to gently relax the fibers. Don't put the nozzle too close or you might melt the lace and/or any sequins or embellishments.

You should still try to wear it while your FH isn't home just to break it in though.

I've also heard of soaking an item in fabric softener for a long period of time (several hours) and then rinsing it all out. Do this at your own risk though.
