How to set a “prudes need to leave”

Corey, on March 21, 2022 at 7:51 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 21
So, I want to make it clear on the invitations that our reception will be rated R after a certain time and if people have kids that they don’t want hearing certain song lyrics or if they themselves are going to get offended that they need to leave. Any ideas on how to word this?

There's no good way to word that. Maybe consider a child-free wedding

Most of our family is kids (19 nieces and nephews) so it’s just not possible. We’re concerned about the older generations more so than the kids lol….and I’m not tailoring my receptions songs to make anybody comfortable.

There's no polite way to do that. Agree with maybe making child-free wedding?

Interesting. Maybe... “Crazy Hour begins at 11pm, guests beware!”

I had a 13 and 8 yr old at my wedding and they heard a lot of curse words in some of the songs. They’re parents were dancing and singing along so I dunno! Let us know what you decide to write 🤪

Don’t really care about kids. Old people are the problem. Can’t really have an “old people free” wedding. Also i don’t really care if the wording is polite now that i think about it 😂

Don’t invite those people then. You absolutely have full control over who is on the guest list. There is no tactful way to say that.

Bear in mind that older generations use the cake cutting as the cue they can leave. So have that done before the uncensored music starts.

Good point. If they take that as their cue to
leave then the problem will be solved!

    Ended up putting
“Our reception music will be unedited and there will be alcohol. Please take this into consideration if you are bringing children or if you are a prude” 😂

Well you asked here on an etiquette board, lol. You can obviously phrase it however you want if being polite isn't at issue.

An idea would maybe be have the DJ make an announcement that the songs will now move from PG to R rated or something like that.

I would add a line on your invite:
“Please be aware that songs containing explicit lyrics will be played after 10pm.”

Well I didn’t really know where else would make sense. My family should know by now that I am uncouth and not to expect much etiquette lol
Having the DJ make an announcement is a good idea!
    Thanks

Nowadays kids at all ages are hearing lyric's that we dont want them to hear. And I'm sure that they heard them from that own parents or others like the radio etc. Just do you and have a great wedding day and leave that up to the parents. Our family knows us and if they don't want there child to hear them then I guess they will be excused themselves early. This why we said no children under the age of 5 some will be there because some may or may not able to get a babysitter.. So they have some time 6mos to know if they have arranged 1or it is what it is. No disrespect to know one that's just my opinion

    I like that! haha

i would write what Bird said and maybe add for further clarification like what Shannon said.

i kind of get what you mean, you want it to be fun but you also don't exactly want it to be catered to a PG crowd at the same time.

I agree with Melle! A combination of the two ideas would be good: "Crazy hour begins at 11pm, guests beware! Please take note that beginning at 11pm, our reception music will be unedited and may not be suitable for all ages."

Old people will be gone by then anyway. I feel like all weddings start out one way and then change to a party atmosphere later on.

I put on our website that before 7:00pm would be “grandparent friendly”. The music would be “tasteful” and played at a lower volume. After that people stay at their own risk.

I love that! I definitely don’t want it to seem like people HAVE to leave if they are older or have kids. I just want them to be warned lol

Most old people leave by night time....most DJs start playing the more raunchy music later. It all naturally works itself out without you having to say a thing. (I have had 2 previous weddings, so I know my stuff lol).
