how to serve water?

Becky, on June 4, 2014 at 12:55 PM Posted in Planning 1 16

We are getting married at a state park. My momma raised me to never host a party without offering ice water as a beverage. We are having a dessert reception with coffee and punch, cake, cheesecake and cookies.

There is no running water on site, but trying hard not to be "rustic". Would it be better to buy small bottles of water (and maybe cover up labels with cute duct tape) or use larger beverage dispensers (that I'd have to rent or buy) and use cups?

Thinking about transporting, cost, garbage generated, and properly serving guests...what do you think?

Bottled water would work fine...I don't think you even have to cover up the label

We are doing bottled water in large metal basins with ice inside to keep it cold. Our caterer provides nothing but food and drink - so if we wanted pitchers we would need to provide them. I really dislike water pitchers left on tables so if people want a water, they can grab a bottle. We cannot have glass in the park where we are getting married so this also fueled our decision.

Bottled water, and covering up the label isn't necessary.

Bottled water is easiest. I also really like these as an option (several at each table)

We are having a "rustic chic" wedding. We purchased plastic beverage tubs from WalMart, one of which we are using for bottled water. We are going to spray paint it with metallic grey paint to make it look like metal. I found the idea on Pinterest. Smiley winking

My sister got married recently and had bottles of water. I noticed a lot of half full bottles laying around at the end of the night, and it did cause a lot of extra recycling to be cleaned up. You could get one of those drink dispensers and resell it after the wedding. They sell milk cartons with water at the grocery store that you could use to fill it. As long as you have someone watching it to refill it, it might be a little easier. I think we are going to go with refilling the drink dispenser and then have a case or 2 of bottled water if we run out.

Bottled water is fine, and I wouldn't worry about it being too informal. If you're getting married in a park, even if you're not going at all for the rustic look, there will still be a bit of the out-doorsy feel. I personally always appreciate it when water is offered at events, so good on you for thinking of your guests! Smiley smile

Ex-squeeze-me, but there's nothing wrong with RUSTIC. Smiley winking

You could do what my MIL did and find these customized/monogrammed water bottle labels that had our name and wedding date on them, and just keep them in coolers or a pale, etc.

Those drink dispensers are super cute too and you could always put water in a couple and then put maybe a pink lemonade or something in the other to add a little color.

I like the idea of a dispenser. You could purchase water by the gallon ahead of time and have it handy to refill the dispenser. Less plastic waste and you can add frozen fruit to class it up a bit. The dispensers are pretty inexpensive at walmart or bed bath and beyond (with coupons). I have one of these and have used it lots over the years for different parties and get-togethers. Useful for large batches of lemonade, juice, flavored water, etc and much less expensive than purchasing individual servings.

I will be dOing the small bottled water. Not sure what they will be sitting in. I have seen on pinterest where they paint the cooler and put designs on it to kinda spruce it up.

Lol @rusticbride...NOTHING wrong with it, just not what we're doingSmiley smile

Thanks for all the input! I'm thinking we might do some of each...like a dispenser & cups near the punch, since there will be cups there anyway, for "cocktail hour" and then also have bottled water (we'll get littler ones) in tubs. Even though doing both might not seem more simple, it seems like it would be best that way....

I'm going to skip the personalized labels/fancy duct tape...gotta keep reminding myself...SIMPLE is my "theme" Smiley smile

If you want lables for water bottles go to oriental trading! We did that and I love how they look, and if i remember correctly they were pretty inexpensive!

Bottled water from Costco. No need to cover labels

I feel like both options are good ones but bottled water is probably the cheaper and easier route. You could get cases of them and either have them in cute bins or just normal coolers depending on the look you want. I don't think covering the label is necessary but if you are looking for a cute touch I'm sure you could get some with your name on them. In the end though when the bottles are done they are being thrown away so it isn't really worth your time.
