Bear with me ladies, this is a little long. Here's the background. I was an only child until I was 19, and when I was away in college my mother got pregnant with my half brother. We have lived in different states since then, and I only see them once or twice a year. So naturally, I am not super close with my half brother, who is 6 years old now. My mom wanted him to be the ring bearer at my wedding and I agreed.
They came to visit earlier this summer, and my half brother was not so well behaved to say the least. He was running in the restaurant almost knocking over a waiter, he was screaming in public because Minecraft wouldn't load, he was throwing sands at random people when we were at the beach, and he stole a lipstick out of my purse and drew all over my living room wall, to name a few things. My mom kind of has this "boys will be boys" attitude going on, so she's not doing a whole lot to stop him.
This kinds of behaviors make me second guess whether I should include him at my wedding or not, because I certainly don't want any of it on my wedding day. I currently only have two kids on the guest list, my half brother and my mom's friend's daughter who is going to be our flower girl. I think I'm still okay with him being the ring bearer because it'll be a quick ceremony, but I really don't want him at the reception running around and knocking stuff over. Also I feel like it's unfair to our other guests if my half brother is there because we said it's going to be an adult reception (most of our friends don't have kids).
I want to tell my mom (and her friend) that our reception is adult only, but how should I word it to make it as polite as possible. Thank you so so much for your help!!!
