How to pick a new date?

sophie, on March 18, 2020 at 12:59 AM Posted in Planning 1 9

To all of the brides that are having to move their wedding dates- how did yall pick a date? we're going to have to end up postponing our wedding as a lot of family is unwilling to travel currently and we don't want to take any risks of not having people show up. we aren't sure if our wedding would even be legal by the time it rolls around- our county is currently prohibiting gatherings of more than 25 people- so we figured changing the date was the best idea. we don't even know where to start, though. this date had a lot of significance and we want to try to pick something that doesn't mess with our work schedules too much. how late/early should we look? help!!

If you know you need to change, act now.

Contact your venue. Ask to postpone. Ask for a list of available dates. Take those dates to your vendors.

We made a list of every saturday for the rest of the year and marked our our NOs before doing this.

When I found out Sunday night, I emailed every vendor I had and coordinated the dates that worked for them. By the morning I had half the vendors dates.

Then my venue coordinator finally called me back and read me the next available Saturdays: thanksgiving weekend, Christmas weekend, and December 5th.Knowing we wanted our guests to have a Saturday, we went with December 5th.There were Fridays/Sundays in the summer but my dress is long sleeve anyway and we hate forcing people to take off time from work.
The only vendor I lost was video and my videographer for me dress rehearsal. Which I now upgraded to a better one and he gave $1000 off for couples in this situation.
A lot of girls are getting summer dates but with a popular venue it’s hard. Plus I wanted more time for this virus to fade away, but I’m leave 4/18 on everything especially if we hopefully elope that day.

Contact your venue and see when they have available for the rest of the year. See which of those dates will work for you and your fiance. Of those dates, send them to the rest of your vendors. Whichever date works for everyone, pick it!

I am so sorry this is happening to you and your fiance! I wish you the best of luck moving forward!

Our date (April 25th, exactly a year after we got engaged) has significance to us too, so we are going to do a small ceremony still with just our parents and then have a vow renewal / formal ceremony and reception with everyone on our new date (August 1st). Now we're calling it a "wedding celebration" instead of a "wedding". It was a tough decision though as we really wanted all of our family and friends there.

I asked our venue for an open date list, she sent me the calendar for the coming months. and i coordinated with our photographer. if she was open then we were taking it. everything else, cake, dj, alterations pick up, make up, all fell into place after that
