How to phrase invitations for religious ceremony (already married)?

K, on May 7, 2020 at 8:41 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 7

So, like so many couples on here, we've had to alter our plans for our wedding because of Coronavirus. We're planning to have a civil ceremony first, as we still really want to get married without waiting longer. I'm planning to change my name at that time--I don't want to hide the fact that we're doing this at all. So, our big wedding will be a religious ceremony and reception. It'll be very similar to the wedding we already envisioned, but my name will be different on invitations. How should I word this?

You can say “Join in the celebration of our union” instead of using marriage.

We are using the term "Celebration of Marriage Ceremony"!

What does your religion call this type of ceremony? I would go with that.

That's a good question. I'll ask the officiant.

But it isn't that. It's a separate ceremony in order to be seen as married by the church
