How to negotiate prices for a wedding dress?

Sarah, on January 30, 2019 at 5:54 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 27
Hello,

I have my first wedding dress shopping/appointment next week. Very excited!!! My budget is $2k but can go up to no more than $2.7k (Not including alterations I will eat the cost no matter what that might be) but I have exactly $2k to pay it off now, is that something that would work in my favor if I tell them?
is it easy to negoatiate prices? Any advice or tips on negoatiating prices??
Thanks !!!!

I don’t know if negotiating prices is a thing you can do or not but a lot of bridal shops have discounts for your first time in or discounts during their trunk shows. Follow them on social media before you book your appointment and read reviews to see if people mention discounts.

Wedding dresses are like anything you buy in a store. The price you see is the price you pay. I have never heard of a wedding store bargaining, but maybe I'm wrong!

I've never heard of price negotiations for them. They might be able to tell you when the sales occur or trunk shows like PP said.

I have never heard of negotiating at a bridal shop as its like any other store you go into. You are the one that is going to have to stick to your budget, the stores will always try to sell you something more expensive, especially if they work on commission. Let them know what your budget is and if they show you dresses that are more expensive just say no thank you and move to the next one. That is a great budget, you shouldn't have any problems finding tons of dresses to try on. Good luck!!

Yeah that’s not a thing. You can tell them your budget and they’ll find you a dress under $2k, not give you a $3500 dress for $2k.

The place I bought my dress wanted a 50% deposit and then 50% when it came in. I have never heard of negotiating a wedding dress.

You cant negotiate wedding dress prices. Your best bet is asking for a discount.

I went to a high end bridal shop in Manhattan (that has a pretty popular TV show) and found my dream dress. I decided to hold off because we had an appt at another shop that day and I’ve never been one to make impulsive decisions. I tried on a bunch of dresses but was still dreaming of that one. The second shop didn’t have the dress in stock but because I had the designer and model number they told me they could order it for me for $800 less than the last shop. Needless to say that’s exactly what I did, the dress has already come in and is perfect! So maybe they won’t negotiate but you could always try another shop to see if they’ll give you a better price.

I’ve heard of people negotiating prices for a wedding dress, but it’s not that common. I feel like when you go into a bridal shop you should pay asking price. It’s not like you go into a grocery store and ask the cashier to take $60 off your total price. Just don’t try nothing on over **** and you shouldn’t go over your budget with alterations. You have a good budget so it shouldn’t be hard to find a dress. Good luck 😁

The only way you can negotiate a wedding dress price is, if you find a private seller of a dress you want.

The only time I’ve ever seen the cost of a wedding dress negotiated is on a buy sell trade sight for a used dress.

There are a lot of great options at wedding consignment shops! Some even get New, un-used dresses from cancelled weddings/ out of season shops.

I’ll be the first one on here to say, yes you can negotiate the price of the dress because I did it (sorta)! Went to try dresses at Bridal Shop #1, just to figure out a style I liked. Went to try dresses at Bridal Shop #2, and fell in love with my dress. Bridal Shop #2 had the dress at $1700 and they told me in a couple weeks they were having a trunk show and the dress would be like 10% off. Called up Bridal a Shop #1 to see if they had the dress I loved, they did and we’re selling it at a different price. They said they would match the sale price of the dress from the other store. The store was offering other promotions for Memorial Day and they were able to bundle all the deals. I chose to buy the dress from Bridal Shop #1 because of the extra incentives and also because it was the closest store to me.

Long story real short, if you find a dress you love find other stores that have the dress and compare prices. And stay in touch with bridal shops for their sales!

Do not tell them your max price just 2k if you say 2.7K chances are they’ll show you 2.5k dresses so only say 2k.
I negotiated my dress price because I went to multiple salones after I found my dream dress on my first trip. I was able to order the same dress at a different salon for almost $400 less but out of a catalog. When I went back to the original store to try the dress again I told them of the other store and they honored the price.

You’re probably not going to get a discount at a chain store, but at a locally owned shop, it wouldn’t hurt to ask, especially if you’re using that shop for bridesmaids dresses or your mother’s dress.

Negotiating prices isn’t something you can normally do unless you’ve found the dress somewhere else and the store price matches. If you have a certain amount to put down on the dress now most store let you pay off the balance at a later date.

I think you may be able to shop around vs negotiate unless the dress was previously owned by someone else. You may be able found a never worn dress and negotiate with the owner.

I would ask if the shop has a layaway/payment plan if you are wanting something more than you have in cash now. The dress store I work in has layaway. I know some stores have different payment requirements for dresses you order, as well. If you order a dress in the store I work in, for example, you only have to pay half of the dress price when you order and then the other half when you pick it up. There are options for payment, but they probably won’t negotiate the price with you.
