How to make a ball gown flattering

Private User, on November 22, 2013 at 3:30 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 10

I am searching for a wedding gown. I always pictured myself in a very large ball gown with a long train. However, these dresses seem to look the least flattering. How can I find a full skirt gown that is still sexy? Has anyone had a dress like that?

Thanks for your help!

It all depends on your body type. Maybe try one in a lighter fabric like tulle or organza. Also try an a-line or fit and flare if you still want volume.

I for one look TERRIBLE in a ballgown as a curvy girl. You have to pick what flatters your figure and you feel comfortable in.

I have a sort of hourglass with a small waist. Fit and flare look good, but I've put on some sheath that were nice but I'd like more fabric. A-line just feel so plain.

I'll try some lighter fabrics, that's a good idea.

Honestly? it's either going to be flattering or it's not. i, and i'm sure a number of other ladies here, ended up loving dresses that were much different than i thought i would like. I look TERRIBLE in a drop waist bc I have a long body and they made me look stumpy. I also didn't look great in ball gowns - they made me look huge.

I always thought I wanted this type of dress but had the same problem. I wanted to look like a bride and feel sexy. I ended up finding a dress with a drop waste that's fitted through the top and down to my hips then goes out into a big skirt. Best of both worlds!

Drop waist, tight bodice, and platform high heels!

They should be flattering, Lauren. Make sure it highlights that small waist, and it should be very forgiving of hips, stomach, and butt! Just try different things on, and see what works for you.

Like some other girls have suggested I would try on a drop waisted ballgown, I am curvy and like it best so far

Something that has rousing around your waist or pulls attention to your little waist

I love ballgowns but they make me look too short.

I tried on a TUN of dresses b4 I found mine & parts of it are exactly what I thought I would like others not at all! Keep in mind its probably going to need some alteration & you might find something that is super close & the few things you don't like can be fixed in alterations. For example my dress has a long train & buttons all the way down. Im having the buttons removed from the majority of the back and debating if I want a short train & keep it floor length or chop the skirt up to my ankles.

Be open minded & try on EVERYTHING even if its out of your price range, it will help you determine exactly what you like/want. I know I passed my dress up once or twice but when I told a consultant how I wanted it to fit she bought it to me & I didn't get a good look b4 putting it on but as soon as I did I knew!!! Like I said be open minded & try everything!!!
