How to let people know about a hotel block

Kelsey, on January 9, 2018 at 8:15 PM Posted in Planning 0 8
Okay, so Im at a little bit of a loss so I need some input. I currently have a hotel block set up for our October wedding. I just blocked it this week but would like to start letting people know about it pretty soon since the cutoff date is 2 months prior to our wedding date. I was not planning on sending out Save the Dates and I also do not have a facebook to contact people to tell them about it. We have a guest list of 150+ people and there is a large sum of them who will want a room. How would you suggest telling people about the wedding hotel block? I know i can put it on our wedding website which i plan on doing but I know its hit or miss whether people actually look at the website. For example, i told everyone about our website then went to a family reunion & everyone acted like they had no idea what i was talking about haha. I was thinking about possibly sending out the invitations 3-4 mo before the wedding but that only gives people 1 month really to book. Help!!!

The website, as you’ve done, and word of mouth. One month is plenty of time to book a hotel, unless it’s a DW. I think you’ll be fine.

There's nothing stopping you from getting a Facebook page, setting up an event, and notifying people of your room block. You can explain that although invitations won't be sent out for some time, you wanted to share the information.

After that, unless your wedding is on the same weekend of a big local event, relax. Even if the room block is full, people are used to booking their own accommodations online.

You can just tell people or start spreading the word. In my experiences, people ask. I’ve asked friends for their weddings. I’ve had people ask me about mine

...although I would only ask someone if I knew for sure I was inivted 😱.

you could always do an email save the date type thing with special hotel info

When we sent out our STD'S instead of just listing our website, we said "for lodging information, please visit our website" and so far a lot of people have made comments that they visited. Word of mouth is also great- when it comes to sharing information about hotels, I think it's okay if the delivery is a little less formal

My wedding is the same weekend as a couple big events in town (music festival and college graduation) so a lot of hotels were already booked. My STDs has already gone out (I didn’t realize there were a lot of events until after I’d sent them) so I ended up sending letters to my guests with the hotel blocks and my website info for additional places we recommend.
Sending letters worked for me but if you can keep everything as one correspondence I’d recommend that instead.

I would do a super cheap/basic STD if you want to put your mind at ease. You can do a postcard style which is cheaper postage and find great deals online. Zazzle has some cute options that are really affordable.
