How to kindly say no children at the wedding please!

Nancy, on July 11, 2019 at 10:46 AM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 12

We are a mature couple that are getting married and I really would like it if we didn't have any children there. I would like all my guest to enjoy themselves and not have to worry about little Tommy or Susie. And I especially don't want them to expect me to watch over them. I've address the invitations with the persons' names on it that I want to be attending. Other than that I don't know what else to do.. Any suggestions?

Make sure you place it on the wedding page, and start the word of mouth. For specific people (such as my sister), I informed them in a conversation about the wedding in general.

You can also design your RSVPs to indicate exactly how many seats you have reserved for each household. Example: "We have reserved 2 seats in your honor. Number attending ____/2; Number declining ___/2."

Like that, so they can see by the RSVP, that you only intend for 2 people to be invited. In a house that's a married couple and three kids, this would make it clear that only the parents are invited.

But I agree with Nikita that it's a good thing to start spreading the word, through your relatives that it will be an adult only affair.

That’s all you need to do. No need to mention who isn’t invited.

I put exactly who was invited on the invitations and STDs and then on the invitations I put on the bottom *Adults only affair* and then on the RSVP card I put we have reserved __ seats in your honor.

On your RSVP card put "___ out of ____ attending" and fill out the second line with the # of adults in the household. You can also put it on your wedding website in the FAQs.

Like the others have mentioned, put the number of seats reserved on the RSVP. We are doing our RSVPs solely on our wedding website so we have on our website in bold letters "Due to space restrictions at our venue, we are unable to accommodate guests under the age of 18." It may not be entirely true but it gets the point across. We have also told several people we are not having children at the wedding and hope that will spread around to other guests we have invited as well to reinforce the statement on our website.

We put a statement that we chose to have an adult only ceremony and reception on our wedding website, we put "Adult Reception to Follow" on the bottom of our invitations along with addressing the invite to only the adults.

We addressed the invites to just the adults, marked how many places will be reserved for them, put it on the website, and by word of mouth. So far no complaints and some are looking forward to a night away from the kiddos.
