How to keep illusion mesh from tearing?

Rose, on March 8, 2019 at 2:03 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 11
Hey all,

I'm almost a month out. I love my dress - illusion mesh bodice with lace overlay. However I'm noticing the mesh is juuust starting to stretch/tear around the neckline so I'm obviously worried about my dress ripping open during the reception. Anybody have experience with this issue? Maybe clear nail polish around the seam would help stop it? Pic is from the bhldn site zoomed in on the bodice

I've never heard of this issue before. How long have you had your dress? Is it hanging and, if so, do you have those little support strap things to help redistribute the weight? Could you share a picture so we can see exactly what you're talking about?

My best suggestion is to bring it to a seamstress and see what she can do. I wouldn't risk my dress tearing on the day of, nor would I want to put clear nail polish on it.

Sorry haha, I NEVER thought of clear polish to stop it from unravelling more!? I mean I don't want to put polish on it but I gotta do something and me plus a seamstress can't do anything about it. Thanks haha

Hey Alexandra, I've had the dress since last June. At the advice of my seamstress I am ONLY hanging it on those loops (the ones in the armpit) so there is no weight on the shoulders of the gown while I wait for the wedding. I have had the cups altered a bit already so I am taking it back to the seamstress to see if she can fix the tearing but to me it looks like something that any sewing is just going to worsen! It's hard to take a pic of but you can see it a bit at the very bottom of the neckline in this pic

I mean, polish isn't ideal but seems better than having our dresses come apart! Haha. If you do try it let me know how it works for you! Hope you find a solution

This sounds a little drastic lol but what about super glue?? Its very "liquidy" so it might be able seep into the fabric to get to every layer and strengthen the bonds? Ive never tried this but you could always find some similar scrap fabric from a fabric store or something and try out different methods.

I did have this problem with mine as well! It was from David's bridal. I had them reorder it. I guess that doesn't help your situation, though. Before reordering it, the seamstress said they could put appliques on the tear to conceal it. I wonder if that might work for you?

Sorry you had the same prob but glad to hear I'm not the only one! Yeah, my dress is sold out now through bhldn and they don't seem like their customer service is too great anyways, I doubt I can get anything from them. I hadn't thought about appliques - or maybe she could add more lace overtop to hide it! Thanks for the idea!
