How to incorporate mother-daughter dance

Jess, on November 5, 2022 at 1:52 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 5
Hi all!

So I am doing the traditional father-daughter dance with my dad. We had a rough relationship growing up but finally started repairing it about 6 years ago then he almost passed away in the midst of COVID due to his heart. We are blessed to still have him so I’m beyond happy to have a dance with him. However, my mom has been my rock my whole life. I want to dance with her to Because You Love Me by Celine Dion on my wedding day. She’s truly my best friend but I’m unsure of how to work this in. I feel like first dance, father-daughter, mother-son AND mother-daughter would be a lot. Any advice would be amazing.

I’ve been to weddings with that, and it was no problem. Usually the dances are during dinner, and you are typically not dancing for the whole song—just about a minute of it.

Hi! I did not grow up with a dad, and want to dance with my fiancés dad at our wedding. However I also want to dance with my mom as she has been my rock as well! I was thinking about doing a midsong switcheroo. May sound weird, but in my mind it would be fine. Start the dance with parent one, and halfway through, the other parent comes and “cuts in” and takes over.

I love that! I think that’s what we will end up doing as well. My dad isn’t in the best health so I think a full song may be too much for him anyhow with the hustle and bustle of the whole wedding day. Are you doing different songs for each?

If I can find a song that encompasses how I feel about both, I’ll do just one song I think. Otherwise probably a fade out/in at the time of transition between dance partners. Haven’t totally decided on that yet Smiley smile

I've seen multiple weddings where after the first chorus, the dad escorts you over to your mom and she takes over for the second verse/chorus, I'm probably going to do something similar.
